Congratulations! Wonderful news (the baby, obvs...).
And about the surgery, maybe now you understand why protestants are pro birth control

So when the surgery was scheduled, we just stopped trying but didn't think we needed to abstain during my fertile time to avoid it. We had kinda come to the conclusion that becoming pregnant would be a difficult thing that we'd have to work on. Go figure.

Congratulations, I suppose.
Just out of curiosity, was adoption even a consideration at any point during this entire process? You know, taking in an unwanted child, saving that child from a lifetime of drudgery in the foster care system.

Thank you. They are great! They made a full recovery. All normal poop, no more blood, no more diarrhea, and they have learned to use the litter box and are starting to eat solid food. They are with another foster now though. Since I thought I was going to be having surgery on Wednesday, I dropped them off at my friend's house on Tuesday, and she's their new foster mom now.

After that much preparation, this is surely a lot to swallow. You probably need to sleep over it to process what happened, and then all the best for the pregnancy!!! You said on the Reasonable Faith intro thread that you considered having kids soon anyways, so the timing isn't all that bad I guess? So good luck!
