How multiculural are you?

RE: How multiculural are you?
I love chicken and waffles as well (odd, I thought it was invented in L.A.), but because I hate bones, I prefer stacking eggo waffles with chicken patties and drenching it all with Aunt Jemima and butter (never done it with gravy. I'll need to).

Besides the aforementioned sushi, kettle chips and cupcake, I also like pizza (chain, Papa Johns), ravioli, and angelhair pasta with marinara. I like stir fry, especially with tofu, and orange chicken. I like sliced chicken breast on a bagged salad. I like burritos and occasionally tacos. I like Indian food, but it's hard to remember what.

I also like a good Philly cheesesteak (no shrooms) and a meatball sub. Served with fries, please. I love fries. Fries are also good with fried clams. Lemon and cocktail sauce, please. Mayo and/or ketchup for the fries.

I'm not big on soups except for chicken noodle, and I LOVE that dearly. Lots of carrots. Lots of oyster crackers, and spiral pasta.

For desserts, I love tiramisu, but also cupcakes, slices of cake (no nuts), and candy.

I don't know the origin of any of that stuff, but I like it. That's all I care about.

LOL, a friend of mine is quite the seafood aficionado and on his last visit here I took him to Absolutely Fresh in Omaha (120th/Pacific location) and he was doubly surprised, not world class, but pretty darn good for Omaha and he was also surprised on my first attempt at trying to impress him with an Omaha seafood restaurant I did that well.

Anyhow, he ordered quite a variety of items, and along the way offered me a soft shell crab.

Oh my.

Goodness gracious !!

Well, I like other forms of crab, but that was like trying to eat a large boiled finger nail. He found my reaction alternately sad and funny. Appartently it's an acquired taste . . .

I do love Hu Hot, a franchise Mongolian Grill. In fact, their first franchisee ever was the 114th/Dodge location which I found shortly after it opened. (they have since moved to 120/Blondo to a larger facility) and I truly believe they are almost unique in that it is entirely possible for that restaurant to actually get better with every visit. My rationale is, with the very wide variety of sauces and ingredients, a skilled and determined guest can continuously improve and refine their 'recipe' every time they go through the line.

Some of my innovations have included slowly increasing the hot chili oil content, leaving out the noodles, continuously tweaking the mushroom/onion/celery ratio, the carrot question, refining ratio of sesame oil to garlic oil, putting the rice on top (!!) when I get back to the table with my treasure, and most importantly, incorporating the nuts prior to cooking (they don't facilitate this, the nuts are at the station where the cooked dishes are presented).

The provenance of Chicken and Waffles is actually interesting and varied! A brief summary of the Wikipedia article:

- Waffles became popular in America when Thomas Jefferson brought back a waffle iron from France (apparently in the 1700s there weren't pop singers or reality stars to emulate, so things got cool when statesmen did them).
- In the 1800s, places like Baltimore and Philadelphia started incorporating waffles into recipes, and started serving Catfish and Waffles, which quickly became Chicken and Waffles because it's a lot easier to get chicken than catfish.
- The Philadelphia version of chicken and waffles (with gravy) migrated northwest, and was adopted by the mid-1800s as a Pennsylvania Dutch staple, commonly served on Sundays.
- The Baltimore version of the dish (with syrup or cream) migrated south and became popular as a delicacy in African American communities; it was eventually made famous by its introduction to restaurants in Harlem in New York City.
- The Harlem version of Chicken and Waffles became famous in Los Angeles due to Harlem resident Herb Hudson's famous restaurant Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles.

So. That was interesting! We both learned a lot today Big Grin

Edit: Forgot to include said Wikipedia article (I cite my sources yo): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_and_waffles

Second Edit: I should also note that the gravy version generally uses stewed, broiled or grilled chicken, whereas the syrup version generally uses fried chicken.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

(England here)

My diet is extremely limited for a number of reasons. I mainly live on breakfast cereal, bread, soya products and mashed up fruit/veg.

We do like getting a Chinese now and again, I enjoy rice and noodles. We've also had an Indian from time to time. I had rice, potatoes and naan bread.
