The nature of evidence
#21
RE: The nature of evidence
How would I know this God thing from Adam? How would you distinguish it from an arbitrarily powerful non God?

You're just giving it fancy names, titles and achievements. You're not telling me anything about what it is.

You can't present evidence for something so nebulous, when we have no clue what you're even talking about.

Why they contradict everything we know about nature? In order for me to believe you, you cannot just make an empty statement.

I have told you Who God is, God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God is the creator of the universe.

So...

Is this for real or a wind up? What do we reckon?

I do not know what god is and those things you just wrote are no help. Creator of the universe: How? what technique did it use? where did it get the stuff etc etc? what made it suddenly want to create a universe,? what is this god thing made of and what does it look like? none of these basic things are in anyway mentioned in your extremely vague "explanation". I have no idea what you mean by the other stuff you said. you may as well as written the flibble, the snort and bibbidy flimp, they are not explanations of anything.

Guys. Don't underestimate the predictability of a passionate theist.
He may be genuine.

After all, how many ways can you try to explain one book?

It's so hard to tell anymore. It's funny how the patterns of theistic argumentation become more and more predictable over time. Here we have: "You're ignorant if you expect the same evidence for God that you would (quite reasonably) expect for every single thing in every other facet of your existence, because...God is super special + philosophy."

*yawn*

Rob, I think you should dust off that great video you did about claims and evidence. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence..ect. I think it's quite fitting here.

By "everything we know about nature," I mean, we have a general and even detailed understanding of physics to know that many of the miracles in the Bible, if they actually occurred, would be a violation of the natural order that is both well documented and available to anyone for subsequent observation.

Furthermore, there is no shortage of examples involving human beings making incredible, unbelievable claims, and countless others who are willing to believe them. As these often appeal to mutually exclusive occult powers, they can't all be true. As some are quite clearly false, and not a single one in the Bible is able to distinguish itself as categorically superior in rationale or evidence as the most fanciful, it's more likely that they all share a similar, less extravagant, and less "mysterious" explanation: people are ignorant of true causes, or dishonest.
