RE: About atheism
I can't believe they don't exist? You have control over what I'm allowed to believe?

Fine. You're either a troll, or someone uninterested in learning anything. Goodbye.

RE: About atheism
Quote:I believe hindu mythology is an actual description of reality, the complete one.

In one Hindu creation myth of which I'm aware (and I don't claim to be an expert), the Creator was lonely, so se split himself into male and female beings and then attempted to mate with himself. His female self regarded this - quite rightly - as incest and ran away, disguising herself as different animals. The male self caught and raped her repeatedly, and from these bizarre couplings, all animals arose.

In what way does this describe reality?

I don't subscribe to any of them, since I'm not interested in atheism at all and don't need any posterheads to tell me about it, but in this they're right. Apart from the fact that these meatbags have a life of their own and every right to enjoy it. Just as any other animal has.

Indeed, sceptics tend to come to similar conclusions. But the OP stubbornly refuses to acknowledge the difference between atheism and scepticism, and that atheism is entirely irrelevant to this discussion. It's just one possible set of unfounded woo to throw magic everywhere because life seems too dull/complex. The atheist doesn't believe in that load of woo, but all the others are fair game. You may as well take issue with people who don't believe in mind-ghosts which project our reality through their warp-like bungholes. I happen to be one of those people too, it's just that it's not such a popular woo position.

On behalf of soulless meatbags everywhere, I'm comfortable with that assessment.

Atheism is an illusion made by arrogant people who just hate idea of a God. Reality dictates that in seemingly endless universe anything is possible - unicorns, dragons, sexy elf mages and God.

Bottom line is that people are egoistic and religion still exist mostly because of the fear of hell. Hell is unbearable idea and just like unicorns it cannot be denied as false. Atheism doesn't exist. Agnosticism does.

Replace Yahweh in this video with whatever thing Hindus worship, Vishnu or whatever.

Also, I don't give a fuck if your flavour of God is real, I'm not looking for things to worship. It makes no difference to me.

Actually, atheism is a statement of belief.  Properly speaking, atheism boils down to the claim 'I don't believe in gods', not 'Gods cannot exist'.  And before you misunderstand, please get that this is not an avowal of agnosticism.

Your next statement is dead wrong as well.  Everything is not possible.  Married bachelors, spheres with right angles, and metallic wood, to name a few.  The Principle Of Non-contradiction states, in part, that a thing cannot be itself and its opposite at the same time.  Since definitions of gods always contain contradictions (for instance, a god cannot be both merciful and just) gods don't exist, no matter how seemingly endless the universe is.

You got statement three largely wrong as well.  There are plenty of religions that are thriving and have no concept of hell.  As to whether it can be denied as false, it certainly can, at least in Christianity.

The notion that 'atheism doesn't exist' is simply ludicrous.  Atheism is a lack of belief in gods.  I lack belief in gods, therefore atheism exists.

You're a very stupid person.

No, religions are illusions made by clever people, who figured out that dumb, ignorant and fearful meatbags will pay them for telling stories.

Wait... What? How does "reality" "dictate" anything? All we can do is observe reality and methodical observation of reality (a.k.a. science) has never shown, that universe is endless, or that "anything is possible". That's just a point of view of primitive, uninformed minds, who accept emotionally pleasing models of reality in order to feel comfortable in their ignorance.

(May 14, 2016 at 5:01 am)purplepurpose Wrote: Reality dictates that in seemingly endless universe anything is possible - unicorns, dragons, sexy elf mages and God.

And yet... there are no unicorns, dragons, sexy elf mages or gods, that any of the numerous proponents of such entities can point to. And consequently - we live as if none of those exist. Just because something is vaguely, theoretically possible - that doesn't mean it's wise to assume that existence for a fact. Because it opens you to aforementioned clever people, who will use your gullibility for their own ends.

Hey, would you like to buy some dragon-fire insurance, since in your view "reality dictates that in seemingly endless universe anything is possible"? No? Why not? Are you just arrogant and hate the idea of dragons? Tongue

Yes, yes - that's true of pretty much anything. You can't completely rule out the existence of anything you can think of. Still - we all know that people, who accept myths as reality are either stupid, or children, or both. And as far as heuristics go - this one seems to check out.

I had a taste of hindu school of religion and it was fucking bitter. I don't worship God... But nonetheless its clear that as long as life is good almost nobody gives a fuck about God. Only when its getting hard people remember God. Africa and muslim nations - extremly dry conditions and medieval economies - lots of faith even Christian bought by the western missionaries.
