I think that's an artifact of thousands of years of brutal and pervasive hegemony, personally. It would be intersting to see whether or not, in a few decades or centuries, atheists are as willing to claim knowledge as theists currently are.
Most of us don't defer to agnosticism with regards to bigfoot...but if Bigfootists had been setting the cultural agenda and eliminating dissent for as long as god believers have been...perhaps we would.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
I love that this person simply presumes to tell us that atheism doesn't exist/is stupid when he clearly has no idea what it means, or what agnostic means, for that matter.
Purp, if you think atheists are stupid, I have bad news, dude: ALL agnostics are atheists by definition. An atheist is just somebody who holds no positive belief that any gods exist. If you claim to "not know" or to not be able to know, then you hold no positive belief in god, and that makes you an atheist. Atheism has no comment on the afterlife or the supernatural. It pertains only to whether gods exist. As for "anything being possible in the Universe," that is absurd. Some things are impossible by definition. A square circle, for instance, can't exist because a square HAS to have four corners and a circle HAS to have none. Because these definitions exclude each other, a square circle cannot exist unless you change the definitions of those words. The god claims, aside from being traceable fictions, usually run into this problem, and Jehovah is the worst offender. Practically all his alleged qualities contradict each other, so it's impossible for him to exist.
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42) Also, I has a website: www.RedbeardThePink.com
Redbread. Its funny how our egoism works. Magical afterlife and magical supernatural - no comment(I don't object). Creator of magic you say?(Game master).I refuse to believe in such magic! LoL

I'm agnostic because I can't rule out a totally neutral superior intelligence running the shop. Whatever you want to call such a being. That's what I subscribed to when I wasn't yet ready for atheism. Until I noticed that a totally neutral entity wouldn't care about worship anyway. RE: About atheism

The point is that since there's no credible evidence of an afterlife or the supernatural, there's no reason to believe that there's some super being that is supernatural who runs the afterlife.
They all may exist. We don't know. It seems incredibly unlikely given what we do know about the universe. But since nothing actually points to any of it being true (religion is the claim, NOT evidence for the claim) there's no reason to believe it's true. Incredibly remote possibility doesn't equal actuality.

Don't be biased, use reliable and good sources. Don't just pull a claim out of your ass, and if you do justify it using sciencific evidence since it's not based on assumptions. RE: About atheism

Who cares about scientific terms? Can we explain...even in magical terms, why there has to be some organizer of this imaginary afterworld? I don't think so.

But if our minds still existing after death,, then something else "powers" our consciousness - magic. And if an atheist "grabs with his egoistic hands magical afterlife and neat supernatural stuff" but portrays the possibility of magical creator as fairy tales... Please don't be offended because I talk about magic. But you cannot have pleasant magic like afterlife and ignore unpleasant like God. RE: About atheism

Okay, it's "beyond science"...what else then, since it isn't a scientific proposition...did you use to arrive at this knowledge? Still wondering why you think there has to be a god for there to be an afterlife, as well...you just keep reasserting that this is so. There are more than a few afterlife beliefs that don't come packaged with god beliefs. Plenty of magical beliefs that don't come packaged with god beliefs.
Why are these beliefs wrong, in your estimation....and how did you arrive at this conclusion? I;m also still wondering why you continue to refer to pleasantness as though it were relevant? I've given you clear examples that show it isn't, or -at least- isn't necessarily so. Will you be fleshing that out either...or will we be treated to a boring procession of empty claims?
