I've got someone I want you to meet, quipster. I'll PM Rik and see if he'd like to straighten you out, high five you or slap you across the head. I'm sure you'll find it very enlightening.

What exactly is the self..is it the body, mind or some odd commingling of both? Well, they've aptly reduced the issue to a brain process. Though the idea of identity remains problematic....one popular thought experiment involves the downloading/overwriting of ones memories, personality, experiences etc. onto another's brain. Say, you've just had the contents of your brain (effectively "you", supra) uploaded to another's brain. How is this particular self identified....is it a new self in a new body; the old self in new body; old body, new self? How would others identify this new conglomeration...by form or function? We have? LOL, news to me. Seems that there must have been more than brain processes involved in making me who I am, after all...the length of my legs doesn't have much to do with a brain process.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Sorry to cut out with only half the thread read so far. I've responded to what I thought was significant. I'll check back when I return to see if you respond to any of it.

On the contrary, "my legs" has everything to do with the brain's capacity to identify to them as such.
If you put person A's memories and experiences in person B, then you are pretty much erasing both A and B and getting person C, because the mind, body and everything else together forms the unique individual.

There is no divisible "I", Cartesian Theater, homunculus or self. There is what we like to call the ego and there is the personality... But people change. Although assholes tend to stay assholeish and lovely people tend to stay lovely xD
