Then it seems we're at an impasse.

Only insomuch as you refuse to participate.

You cling to external answers, a blatant irrational desire to be spoon-fed the mysteries of life in one convenient dose. (Not far removed from the Christian desire of clinging to their all-encompassing Bible.)

Clear a couple of things up for me....should it be a problem if I was irrational..if reason is inadequate?  What mysteries in life?

I don't know what else to tell you other than to keep banging your head on every wall....eventually you'll yield to the wall instead of expecting the wall to yield to your desirous whims.

There are a myriad of was to say nothing. In the spirit of the koan...I offer you something by way of nothing.

That should give you a brain cramp to work out.

You tell me as that's precisely the goal of the koan. Give quiet contemplation a chance. 

-and again, you make me doubt that you spent your time learning buddhism wisely...since you didn't learn it at all.  A koan is a prelude to magic.  The goal of a koan is not to provide a standard measure, a means by which claims can be considered when/if reason fails...it's meant to persuade the audience that reason is inadequate.  No amount of quiet contemplation is going to lead me to anything which I didn;t already know.  I need interaction, I need input, I need standards of consideration.

By what method of determination do I experience existence separate from your experience; more to the point, what determined both our particular experiences and could one have been shunt in place of another (by what alternate means could I have experienced existence through your perspective or vice versa)?

Why here, why now...why not exist a thousand years from now or a thousand years past?

Can this ever be coherently approached or determined materialistically/scientifically? Or, is metaphysics a fundamental necessity?

Sum ergo sum, I am therefore I am. The facts of my existence are the evidence and explanation of my existence. My identity and 'conscious', self-referential faculties are emergent properties of my physical existence, the qualia of my brain functions.

All robust evidence demonstrates this and though the experrts don't have a full picture of how 'I' arise from my brain (far from it!), I clearly do because I'm here and there are no other mechanisms working that could produce such an effect.
