[split] Warm Greetings - The Not Welcome-y Stuff
#41
RE: Warm Greetings
I have seen this happen after a regular member get a verbal warning like 3 or 4 times. I never saw it because if a meager speedbump. Iys not big brother attitude, its moderating a forum and admins are just beefed up moderators. I like TRS, but its not the first time a well liked forum member goes apeshit over the staff doing their jobs.

What I see is that alot of people taking the bait and breaking the forum rules because of this op's controversial attitude. Probably gave it leverage to bombard the staff with reports. Reports that are founded in the rules. I told Napo once (i think it was napo), when I was staff, that how can we fire the cannon when we have good forum members engaging in melee and breaking rules themselves? The banhammer does have splash damage.

Now, I know how the staff works and it pains me greatly to see such injustice throwed at them, for something so basic as a speedbump, the lowest of staff actions. One might think its just clicking around banning people but its not. It takes time and effort, the reason I stepped down, as I couldn't devote enough time to do anything real usefull.

The staff is always welcome to receive proper criticism/complaints/suggestions on the proper subforum. It is just very unfair to see it soiled by a momentaneous fit.

RE: Warm Greetings
Wow, popped back in because I was told I needed to see the direction this conversation was taking. So I do have something important to say, to clarify a few things:

FUCK YOU LAST POET. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

It was not a "momentaneous fit", nor was it a sudden or rash decision. It was certainly not just about a little speed bump.

I take issue with the philosophy of this board on the restraint of its own membership in the name of some imaginary philosophy of equanimity, and I have been chafing for quite some time at almost every instance of staff intervention that was about keeping our own members censored and "in line", by whatever means, while allowing the ignorant fucks to get away with just about anything.

The staff here have hinted or outright stated, on numerous occasions that I've seen, that disagreeing with staff decisions will have repercussions... and now you're trying to hide behind the "well if only you had told us!" excuse? GTFOH with that shit.

So you can strawman my position all you fucking need, in order to make yourselves feel better, I suppose... but this was neither a quick nor a passive aggressive (or whateverthefuck y'all want to try to label it in psychological self-defense) decision on my part. It's something I've been considering doing for quite some time, and this was finally the "straw that broke the camel's back".

And by the way, LP, a word of advice: make sure you only ever use the phrase "passive aggressive" in the safety of a computer keyboard, or you might meet someone who's willing to get actually aggressive with you... you know, like someone who did a fucking decade in the joint.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

OK, thanks, bye.

BTW, loved the jailhouse bravado cred. Do you use it often?
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

RE: Warm Greetings
OK.  I have scanned this thread, and finally decided what I want to say.
Everybody just needs to chill.
That speedbump could have been for Boru (telling a new member in an intro thread to set herself on fire?  C'mon.  Even if the intro was offensive.)
And then Rocket wrote one of his excellent logical responses.  -- But it's an intro thread.  He apparently missed that - he said in a later post that he rarely sees the category of a post, and I often don't either.  That might be something to look into.
And he might have over-reacted a bit.  How many of us haven't done that here?  Or he might have a really decent point - something might be off.  Making communication clearer, making categories clearer, everyone understanding where the lines are drawn . . . these things could only improve AF.
But passive-aggressive?  Jailhouse bravado?  Back off, guys. Name-calling, with a forum member that we KNOW is almost always logical, patient and clear-headed?  Can't we cut him some slack and open a real dialogue?

I'm not sure what cutting him more slack would look like. There's a whole thread devoted to begging him not to go. No one has asked him to leave or suggested that he should leave. All that happened is that a Mod reminded us that it's an intro thread and we're supposed to be gentle. It was shortly after Rocket's post, but it seems more likely to be a response to Boru's post.

If this:

isn't passive-aggressive or jailhouse bravado, then I think the only alternative is that it's overtly aggressive and an attempt at jailhouse intimidation. A line has been crossed here. And maybe I missed it, but I don't even see LP using the phrase 'passive-aggressive' anyway. Was it edited out or in a private message?

That's a good point, Agenda.  I really think the speedbump was . . . well, maybe could have been clearer.  He didn't see the category, he took the time to make an excellent response, and then it probably felt like he got slapped down for it, and that a newbie theist who had made an offensive post was being protected.  And it went south from there too quickly.  I hope our bro Rocket decides to stay.  We'll see what happens, after everyone cools off.

"Jailhouse intimidation".  Well yes.  He served time.  Words were threats.  It's a conditioned response that anyone who had been in his situation might fall into.  But we know how this guy usually is.  I think this is what I mean by "cut him some slack".  The angry post is not his norm, and we all know it.

Well, it would seem like Janice is now in lurking mode. She was just here no more than 2 hours ago yet her last post was yesterday. Not that I care, but one can only hope that she's read her heated thread and got the message.

I used that phrase.
