Which makes perfect sense because as you were so astute to point out this region is very dry and arid. So for their to be any city not built on a river or a lake to have existed water had to be piped in.

Now do I need to pull up a map of Jerusalem for you to see it was not built on a water way so water had to be 'piped in?'
