My top ten in no particular order:
(intentionally left out Star Wars and Star Trek, I love them but find it too hard to choose between and not include several)
(2001 is one of those things where I feel like I should pick it and while I enjoyed it, I still don't know exactly how I feel about it)
Blade Runner (1982
Ghost in the Shell (1995)
The Matrix (1999)
Alien (1979)
Aliens (1986)
The Thing (1982)
Donnie Darko (2001)
Wall-e (2008)
Terminator 2 (1991)
Event Horizon (1997

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. Was Donnie Darko really sci-fi though?

Yes?...but only so that it could set up a much more intense moral dilemma/drama. Hell, Wild Wild West was sci-fi (as a steampunk western).

See, I have troubles labeling something as sci-fi just because it has some interesting tech or something in it. To me, in order to be sci-fi, science has to play a role in the plot. Whether the science is the plot or is simply used to help move a plot along, it has to be a part of the plot. This is why I didn't put those Alien films on the list, because they are more horror than anything.

Some of the best sci fi is sci fi that really plays down the sci. Like PKD said.
The future is alot like today, only dirtier.

Funny how we categorize some movies, the first Terminator is my favorite romance title.

Arnie certainly was packing a terminator at the Griffith Observatory. Then he got pants.
Anyway, any movie where Bill Paxton dies in on my top ten.

Well, it was Kyle Reese confessing his love to Sarah Connor that got me.
I came across time for you . . . . .
