I don't know what you want from me here. I get that you think I'm a horrible misogynistic monster, but I feel like you're angry about something....feminists it seems.

I don't think you are a misogenistic monster at all, far from it actually lol.

I'm not angry at feminists, I'm somewhat a feminist myself, at least in my thinking.

I wasn't angry when I first posted... but now i have my panties in a knot...damn the way a woman's serious and crippling hormone issues are treated.... Imagine this as an autism post...?????

All I wanted was to see how skeptics and or feminists feel about a controversial topic where the research and agendas are all over the place. The controversy is big pharma still wants to make hormonal woman appear mental. This is fucking abuse and feminists who lovey dovey menstruation make me want to pull hair.

I get that I don't fit the typical "atheist" and I get that I don't fit here, i didn't really expect to, but it still really saddens me how this topic was treated.

And believe it or not, I somewhat like some of the people here because underneath the haughty exterior I do believe are decent people who give a shit about important things.

On that note, I'm psychologically exhausted in my life right now and I dont have the mental stamina to be the advocate or activist id like to be so I'm going to just let it go. You bunch give me disturbia, and a beach awaits me xo.

RE: pmdd
I'm a woman. I get my period every month like clockwork. I'm the lucky sort, though. It only lasts three days, and I rarely have cramps, body aches, or bad moods, but when I do, it's PMS.

I have a friend or two who have symptoms so severe, they can't live their lives while it's happening. They hurt; they bleed like crazy; sometimes they lash out and have behavioral things happen.

Doesn't it make even a little sense to you, dust bunny, that 1. there would be different terminology for that, 2. taking advantage of diagnosis and available prescriptions, 3. these hormonal symptoms would have a hand in putting anyone, male or female, feminist or not, in a really bad effing mood??

I really don't understand your point here.

Also, what's with the paranoia that Staff would want to do anything to censor you?? I was on Staff for a long time, and there are some controversial members who ruffle feathers, but not only was censorship the last thing on our minds, you are far from controversial enough for Staff to even look at you as a blip, let alone someone to take action against.

We don't know you. We've had a lot of trolls in our time. So someone comes on and says "As atheists, how do feel about the controversial topic of pmdd?" Our natural response is going to be "Well, Carl, I feel right fine about it and I think it should not be illegal. Now tell me, as aeronautic engineer, how to do feel about the controversial topic of jelly burritos?"

I hope it makes some sense that we would respond in such a way. Had you made a case for the controversy and why you're bothered by what's happening, we might have taken you a bit more seriously.

Now, I will say that I don't know a lot about pmdd. I was treated for it when I was very young but I don't think I actually had it. And I took Yaz but I never bothered to try and sue anyone. After having kids I never had more than normal PMS as far as I know. I think we do have a member who has more experience. I don't know if she will chime in or not.

Oh I'll add one more thing, we don't ever just delete people's posts because we don't agree with them. There's no AF conspiracy here. If your post doesn't go through it's likely a problem with your connection or occasionally the spam filter caught something that wasn't spam.

ETA: if it was the spam filter, we will restore your post. Smile

I use my phone to tether internet so its possible it disconnected when it sent. It was really annoying to be up at 5 am debating this stuff and i still made a half exhausted effort to pull up a bunch of research and then it just went awol after i posted it. It pissed me off cause it took a while and the birds were chirping and the sun was coming up. I'm not living healthily right now with this night into day foolishness. The last forum I was a member off was highly policed and censored. I suppose I expected it.

Anyway, thats some good news about the censoring. I respect the format here

RE: pmdd
It is fishy that the big pharmaceutical companies would repackage Prozac as Sarafem just as it is nearing it's patent expiry date. Then push to have pmdd included as a mental health disorder so as to stop a cheaper alternative by prescription.
Although in the studies I read, sri's (namely Zoloft) were thought to be the best indicator and alleviator of symptoms.
I need to do more research, clearly.
Apparently some research suggests that women with pmdd are more prone to depressive disorders due to societal issues or past history of abuse and therefore are displaying the signs of nothing more than severe pms.
People on this side of the issue seem to want to stop the negative stigma of mental disorder that may interfere with work, custody battles and society status in general.
It's certainly a controversial issue and not black and white.
The clearest thing I can discern from the information I have read so far is that the women involved are indeed suffering and it's a shame that this debate has gone on for twenty years with seemingly no end in sight.

A simple Google search will tell you that the first line of treatment is typically birth control, there are specific types (low estrogen iirc) that help best with regulating hormones as a defense against pmdd. The second step is an anxiolytic which is probably what you're mistakenly thinking of as an antidepressant but it's actually just an anxiety medicine.

I still don't know where the controversy is. Please show us where this is a highly debated topic.

See what i mean... you read it and then you think your research is correct and you spew big pharma caca. How do you even say to me that I'm confused between an antidepressant and an anxiolytic? Really?

You are actually wrong.

Wow.  Did you just go menstrual on Losty?  Everyone: deep breaths.

What I remember, as a child, when I had my period I wanted everyone to die. Including myself. Like a murder suicide deal where I get to kill everyone in the world first. The pain was awful. And the hatred. I don't think anti depressants would have helped but the Yaz did. And luckily I didn't have any side effects I don't think...? Mine was pretty internalized. And I think the worst stigma was the way my dad treated me because I was on birth control. Probably my memories are skewed because I was just a kid. I dunno.
