I use the term 'yank' all the time. Nobody seems to take offence to it.

I used to use the term 'Yanks' for people from the US, but that made crowds of you spin out of control for some unfathomable reason (kidding - I fathom it). I dislike the term 'Americans', since most USians I talk to don't speak Cherokee. Meh, you lived on an island off'n Europe, that's good enough for me. /self-absorbed septic (June 28, 2016 at 4:47 am)Thumpalumpacus Wrote:(June 28, 2016 at 4:38 am)BrianSoddingBoru4 Wrote: Sidebar: My use of the term 'USians' isn't meant to be offensive, it is a shorthand I adopted a long time ago for 'US citizens'. Yank doesn't work either... the whole southern population would be in an uproar. The American Civil War was Yankee Vs Confederate and even over 150 years later a southerner would blow a gasket if called a yankee. When we get irritated at northerners our go to insult is 'the damn yankee'. I'm just very very particular when it comes to names. People should be addressed how they wish to be and that is important to me.

I have lived over seas being an army brat and I detest the reason the south caused the civil war but I still ain't gunna be called a yankee. I prefer southern belle. lol not that I deserve that title :p
lol, when you go overseas, you'll be called a "yank", and you'll like it, young lady!
That's the thing about names other people give you - at some point you just make them your own. Cracker, redneck, hillbilly - that's all me. Yankees....are folks from the NE US, at least that's what we hicks call em.
