I'm not afraid of terrorism, are you?
RE: I'm not afraid of terrorism, are you?
You're basing your assessment...such as it is, on the risk of picking up thieves, not hitchhikers.  Hitchhikers are looking for a ride, not your wallet.  -Just- as you based your risk assessment, such as it is, on the risk of terrorists, not refugees.  Refugees are looking to flee terrorists, not blow up your house.

It makes -no- sense...to talk about theives or terrorists, and then lay claim to some comment on hitchhikers or refuges...doubly so when you have no stats, or the stats are flat out against you. We explain this on this site at least once a week on average..I think I've even seen you explain it to someone. When they make some comment about group a...let's call them "murderers and rapists"....and then use that comment to then make a judgement on some group b...let's call them "atheists".
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I hitched lifts from Aberdeen to Swansea, and was only murdered twice. So, pretty safe.

It's a moot point anyway, since people don't hitchhike in the city but between cities. I generally pick up anybody who doesn't appear under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It doesn't mean I don't talk to them for a bit before letting them in my car. It's the same with refugees, vet them before letting them into the country. Nobody is arguing that we just let people flood in unchecked.

I'm not afraid of the refugees and I'm not afraid of hitchhikers. If that's the way you are going to live your life, it's up to you. But the idea that safety should come before having enriching experiences and meeting interesting people from foreign lands is a dismal one, in my opinion.

Yeah, we're hopping back and forth between what I am comfortable with, and how safe you guys claim it is.  I'm never picking up a hitchhiker, because I don't care about strangers.  So any risk, even a 1 in 100,000,000 is more than I'm willing to incur.  But you guys are saying it's safe, which is a different discussion.  But I don't think you can quantify the risk.

Already, it's gone from safe to safe as long as they pass a simple once-over.  Implying? that there is some common sense caution involved in picking up hitchhikers.

This one time in 89 or 90, I picked up a hitchhiker and he pulled a huge knife from his backpack...and proceeded to make himself a peanut butter sammich.

I'll admit to a brief period of fear.

Would you do anything to help a stranger?

Yeah, peanut butter makes me nervy as well.

Why is quantifying a risk suddenly important Wallym?  You haven't quantified any risks, and have ignored any attempt -to- quantify them in the first place. I find myself wondering the same thing that Boru asked...is there anything you would do for a stranger? Because if there isn;t...all this business about terrorism, and refugees shittifying our country is irrelevant, isn't it? They're strangers, end of. Lead with that.

You keep saying this, and I can't follow your logic.

I don't want to pick up a thief.  Thieves pose as hitchhikers.  I can't identify which are hitchhikers, and which are thieves.  Therefore, I can only avoid thieves posing as hitchhikers by avoiding picking up all hitchhikers.

Is there some hole in there I can't figure out.

You can only "avoid the terrorists" by avoiding everyone posing as a human.
