Question?

True yet, it would have tremendous impact upon our death....as we "knew" it.

Similar to the popular consequence of not running around with scissors...exception being an eternal component has been added into the mix.

So, you'd do what it says in order to be rewarded/not punished. That's pretty much how religion operates, yeah. It's why I'm not interested.

It's odd you compare God to some sort of hazard. But you assume it will keep its word when it has no reason to.

RE: Question?
Wouldn't have much of an impact on mine.  I'm hellbound regardless of whether or not I believe god exists, if god exists.  Meh.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

God is essentially a tyrant. I didn't claim I would be overjoyed.

I would either accept His terms or pay the consequence; self preservation holds rational precedence.

RE: Question?
I think that you're either giving yourself, or god, entirely too little credit in that scenario.  The terms, such as they are, are that you sign off on the whole christian bit.  Is it so easy to make you do that...or would you just be pleading for your afterlife, hoping god wouldn't see through you? This isn;t your everyday human tyrant...we're talking about here. The man can read your mind...and even that is superfluous, since it knows everything without needing to read your mind.

Then I'd be in quite the pickle...He would simply squash me like a bug.

Makes you wonder why He ever bothered to create me to begin with!  Worship

RE: Question?
Yeah. God is usually described as an evil tyrant.

I wouldn't spend what little opportunity I had to have a real experience toadying around him. We're all fucked if he is in charge.

I wouldn't care if the Guy was gentle as a lamb. I'm just not going around looking for ass to kiss.

I understand the idea of self preservation factoring in but I just can't take the prospect seriously enough to go there .. even hypothetically.

Well, I don't wonder that, because...continuing with the assumption in the OP (it's all really real)...he created us to worship him.

Does make you wonder why, from one human to another human...the OP question would be asked, though. I suppose it speaks to a common misperception that all that might be required to make an atheist into a christian would be to produce a god. People spend all their time working on that one - when's the last time anyone tried to convince us that god was good, that it was worthy of worship (or that anything was worthy of worship)..... rather than simply existent?

RE: Question?
I guess we're seeing the distinct split in approaches here. Kiss the ass of the scariest looking thing around, or just get on with things.

I'd only kiss ass if I thought I could somehow trick the thing and use this to escape punishment, save others, or whatever. But expecting to trick a "God" is a bit silly.
