But the aforeposted song by The Magnetic Fields has me realy curious now, too (never drank vermouth either, and I'm not very literate, so no Camus).
They're legal here in the UK. Not common at all though.

I love going outside. I spend a lot of my summer out by the pool or in the pool. At least when it's not too hot. If I didn't have a pool, I probably wouldn't like to be out as much.

I am "three bears" weather compliant. No outside in the rain, wind, cold, heat, snow,.............. This does not mean that I don't leave the house. It means garage, car, other building, reverse. If I don't get out every couple of days minimum I start to go stir crazy.
The exception is walking the dogs. Half hour minimum no matter what the weather. Hot, walk at 1/2 hr prior to sunrise. Cold, walk at 3 in the afternoon. Rain, watch the radar and try to time it right. Snow or wind, I'm just fucked.

Either or, I like to go into town and have a wander around, or I can quite happily spend all day at my flat reading a science book :P

It's about 97°F here right now, with a heat index of 106°. I'm sitting under the shade tree on my lawn.
Trailer is nice and cool, but fresh air is better than cold air, for my money.

Meh, it's summer in Texas. Couple of years ago we had 70 days of the season over 100°, this is easy money.
'Course, I don't know that I could take a Glasgow winter, either. Each to his own, no?

I'll take Texas any day
I'd always rather be too hot than too cold. I can't do cold and constantly lashed by rain
