Yeah - yeah... just a coincidence, I'm sure.

They can. But what would the motivation be for vetoing a bill where people would be registered to vote automatically? Like, for instance, when they get a driver's license, or renew it?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

If you investigated the story you would see that it is not about "filling out forms."

Quote:The court also struck down other restrictions that scaled back early voting, prevented residents from registering and voting on the same day, and eliminated the ability for voters to vote outside their assigned precinct.

Critics argue that photo ID laws enacted by North Carolina and several other states are designed to drive down turnout by minorities and poor people who are less likely to possess drivers’ licenses or other forms of state-issued identification.

In its ruling, the U.S. Appeals Court for the Fourth Circuit said the state legislature targeted African-Americans “with almost surgical precision.”
“We can only conclude that the North Carolina General Assembly enacted the challenged provisions of the law with discriminatory attempt,” the court wrote.

Racism is not new in the south.  They've been doing it for a long time.

I'm not a fan of same-day registration myself. If voting is important to you, set aside a little time, and get on the rolls. Simply showing up, without ID, on polling day seems pretty lackadaisical to me.

If you cannot be assed to exert even that minimal effort, how much thought have you put into your vote anyway?

That's one of the reasons why I find the European system better. Get some kind of identification and vote where you live. Far as I understand it you have to register with a party affiliation in the USA. Our system is far from flawless, but attempts like this are unthikable.

Some people don't get paid if they don't work.

It's all part of the same republicunt scam.

Quote:Voter registration problems, which tend to pass under the radar, have long been the single greatest barrier to voting, causing millions of lost votes per year. Unless your state has same-day registration, if you are not registered, you cannot vote. One in four eligible Americans is not registered, and millions more have outdated registrations.

Which is just the way the racist bastards want it.

It doesn't matter whether or not a person puts an ounce of thought into their vote.  They can walk in there and christmas tree the ballot. It's their vote.
