Thumpa, I was providing honest criticism. I also like a lot about your writing, but I tend to focus on the things that I find lacking. You're obviously very smart, have a very large vocabulary, and can provide a good narrative, at least technically speaking. I just think this particular piece of text didn't arouse anything in me, nor did it make me want to keep reading after a while. This is just my opinion, it's entirely possible other people will judge it differently.

And here I thought I was being nice with this post, explaining the previous one. But it turns out I did exactly the opposite.

It's good to write for yourself, it's a very therapeutic and nice experience. But writing just for yourself generally produces bad writing, I think. It is a lot easier, though.

It's all good. I understand that with writing, as with any other art, styles have followings and not everyone's going to like what I do.

I was out to make the reader want to read more. That's it. Not worried about impressing the literati, not worried about being the best thing since sliced bread. I write for two reasons -- one, as you mention, is simply setting down the memories, the stories, of my life, and the other is simply to entertain folks.

He wasn't entertained? Great, maybe he'll like something else I've written or will write ... or maybe not. I'll still write for the first reason, and hope for the best.
