Well you can do like Gerson and create one you believe in.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

TBH that's more of a philosophy than a religion. By those standards that would make Absurdism a religion which would make me religious

Yeah like Steve Jobs or Jim Henson or followers of Jim Jones or countless others that refused to seek medical help because of prayer healing.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Anecdotal evidence/case studies are not valid evidence.

Nobody can argue with commandment "love your close ones as you love yourself". Even if you dont practice the idea, its still looks good, just like vegetarian idea is. The catch is when your promised so much pain after death for refusing to follow religion, that average person with their comfy life can't even imagine being tortured, regenerated like wolverine from x-men and repeat the ultimate nightmare.
It turns out that under the cover of love hides utopian ideas of martyrdom, which is very similiar to masochism.

And consistently it is far greater than any other social group (sporting clubs, other interest groups, etc). If you want to live longer, and be happier, find a religion you like and join it. You could become a devout Kopimist* for example (*note no studies show a health benefit for this particular religion, yet).
Except these studies don't say anything about any one individual, rather that in general, people with religious beliefs tend to be happier and live longer lives. This may be due to people with certain predispositions who tend to be happier when they put their faith in some higher power or whatever vs people who have similar dispositions but end up less happy without religion. So perhaps religion serves more as a moderator variable for the relationship between some predispositional variable and happiness, rather than as a direct causal factor. If so, this means religion isn't necessary to boost these people's happiness, but it may be the best option we are aware of at this point.

Or perhaps it has to do with the constant stream of life shittifying things a non-believer has to deal with in a world full of believers, as every study that ever remotely approaches that position...points out?

Yeah religious people live longer because they usually stone atheists.
But I think that OP is validly upset because I think there's little doubt that Christians will try to "convert" his boyfriend from being gay. You know after some time when things calm down, they'll probably say to him "You're sick. Your boyfriend got cancer because he's gay and that's a huge sin and you probably brought more cancer to other people because you're gay and living in sin. Why don't you go to conversion therapy. Yada. Yada. Yada."
