I've frequented another forum where you can post anonymously, and believe me, it actually makes a difference.

Incidentally, that's the only forum I ever posted short stories I wrote, even though I didn't ever use the anonymous option to post them.

But that option was amazing when it was needed. It gives you some leeway to say some things you wouldn't otherwise(not mean things directed at specific people, of course, you know what I mean).

The forum goal is discussion. Discussion is hampered by an inability to identify one's participants. How would quoting work? How would you know who is replying to whom?

It doesn't sound like it would be good for discussions. What would it be useful for?
