former Christians here? i need help with a research
i would like to write a story or novella. I suppose the title will be "Son of a Preacher man".
are there any former church elders? deacons? ministers?

have you ever played in some christian band? engaged in some church activities?

how about your older siblings? parents, uncles, aunts, etc?

till what age do kids go to sunday school?

what was good about going to church?

-------
my knowledge of church life is limited to "the simpsons" cartoons.

In my experience you could hardly have a better model.

If your gonna write a book don't just start off with the name, it's not gonna help.
Write down a plot after you get the information.

But otherwise writing isn't that hard. It takes a lot of patience.
I'm writing a book and it's 6 months since I started the plot and it's been 2 months since I started the first chapter. I'm still fixing the first chapter.

But writing books... Man is it fun.

Just write about something you'll have fun writing. If don't actually wanna write about Christianity then don't. But if you do then focus it on something you know or will know after research.

Obviously making this thread shows that you clearly are doing some research and that's great.
But just remember, don't limit your book to a certain audience, don't ever say "but...", and most certainly do not aim for your book to be a bestseller.
And before you write the book find a good publisher or make a plan for self publishing.

And I would love to take a look at a sample of your book one day.

There are websites in which it shows what it's like to be a christian. Also youtube is a great source just make sure the video isn't biased and watch multiple videos or read multiple things about Christianity.

CultofDusty is a channel with a ex-christian host.

But just remember the book shouldn't be forced. If you don't like the idea or can't do it then try to change it up a bit or put a twist.

If you can't then you should explore and see what books you may like.

But also remember... Books will never just come to you. You need to feel a personal experience and be enlightened on the topic. I don't think you'd really like to make a book on Christianity be your first. Topics like these need extensive research so maybe write a few shorts stories on what you know about it and eventually let them become more complex as you research.

Explore your thoughts because you may just be able to come up with an original idea that blows everyone away.

But till then dear, discover your way of writing.
Everyone's is different mate.
Never force it. Ever.

It does come to you slowly though, and one day you'll be ready.

Don't feel worried though. It could take a few months but it's worth it. Like Science, Maths, etc.

Hope to read it one day.

I have preached and been in the role of a deacon. I can't play instrument, but have (badly) lead singing at times. I've worked to feed the homeless, and the working poor in the church pantry, work in after school programs for our inner city out reach program. I've also been a camp counselor for inner city summer camp, also worked as a singles/collage age minister.

Both sisters and mother go to church.

Sunday school typically mirrors grade school

It is a safe place where people are supposed to help and be helped by those of the same faith.
