Metalheads Discussion

RE: Metalheads Discussion
With one exception of a ball-droppingly awesome parody band, nah, power metal is not my stuff

Ah damn, I wish I could go see them live, but no luck. I hope I can one day. For me the album that made me reconsider them was Demigod. Nergal's English is atrocious, but I can get past that since he's a pretty chill dude Tongue

p.s. prog....
I considered myself a fan of Dream Theater, and I saw them live when they were promoting Six Degrees... and it was great, I saw them years later on the Gigantour on Long Island, and you'd think that on their home turf, it would be an extra great concert with an awesome crowd, but the sound was shitty, and it was overall pretty boring. Now I just find them artificial, insipid wankery and boring, and LaBrie makes my blood curdle.

Opeth decided to become 70s prog, and that was a turn towards pure boredom. So prog is pissing me off more and more in different ways.

Had a brief phase for Dream Theater in the past but it didn't stick. Opeth just doesn't do anything for me.
What about Tool?

Not actually metal, but I'm curious to know if anybody here listens to Misfits? Or like Danzig/Samhain?

Lately I've been really into the hardcore/horror punk/proto-metal sort of stuff.
I am John Cena's hip-hop album.

They can fall into a few categories, but they're mainly called alternative metal, which is really a dumping ground for bands that defy classification like Primus and Faith No More.  It's a genre where bands use elements of metal but not the structure. Some of their songs can sound metal-ish.

This is about as metal as it gets for me besides the old Metallica.  I don't listen to a lot of metal.

That's true, and they themselves don't enjoy being labeled as anything, especially metal. But prog is a very vast term and Tool definitely fit the criteria for it.

I was mostly asking what Alex/everybody else on the thread thought of it Tongue
