I use not smoking as an excuse to buy myself lovely things.
£5 a packet, one a day thats £30 a week dont smoke for 10 weeks and you can spend £300 on yourself and not feel guilty.

Lol, nice.
I am buying myself a big fatty lunch today because it doesn't matter how much grease or whatever is in it, it's healthier than cigarettes.

Good luck, Eil. Eat whatever you want while you are quitting. You have to give your body something. Then, when you are comfortable without nicotine, you can change your diet back to normal.

I wish people would stop using Eil. I never liked it. Makes me think you're saying eel and those fuckers are creepy.
I prefer Ely for short.

Perhaps if we could find someone to dress up as the Grim Reaper and jump out at you every time you look longingly at a pack of cigarettes, then that would help...

Do you drink any as well? My uncle died last year of throat cancer. My dad had it last year (it is now in remission). My grandfather died of it some years ago. My girlfriend's father also died of it two years ago. And now there's Christopher Hitchens (although I understand he is quite a drinker too). Its not just the possibility of lung cancer, but throat cancer.
Not sure if this would help or not, but even the physical act of holding a cig may be on your mind. Try cinnamon flavored toothpicks. (I'm not sure if this would act as a temporary physical substitute or if it may exacerbate the craving)
Corrupt tobacco companies thrive by getting people hooked on their drug. F*** them. Watch The Insider with Al Pacino and Ruseell Crowe (I remember when this news actually came out in the mid 90s).
Think of all the money you'll be saving. How many packs do you normally smoke a week? Do the math and calculate how much money you are saving in a year's time.
You can only benefit from quitting, not only in terms of quantity of life but quality as well. And more than your family and friends, you owe it to yourself.
Good luck and don't let the bastards grind you down!

A workmate who had asthma and smoked died last year at age 27. He sometimes became quite debilitated by chest pain. Eventually his lung collapsed and he was taken by air ambulance to where they had the machinery to keep him alive. He was getting better but every time they removed the tubing, as they had to periodically, his heart stopped. He seemed cured so was flown back to his local hospital. His heart stopped again and couldn't be revived. Very sad.

Don't worry Ely. God will make sure you quit!
Oh wait...
Anyway, don't give up! I don't know what the experience is like, so that's really all I can say. You can do it!
