I'm not sure that Negan and his gang really care that much about genetic diversity, and perpetuation of the species.  They seem more like 'instant gratification' type of people.  But, I haven't read the comics so I may be missing pieces of the narrative.

Aye... the gang clearly doesn't care.
And "instant gratification" doesn't keep you alive for a whole year against those zombies, while creating a neat extortion business to stay alive on minimal effort.

I don't know... I haven't read the comics all the way, either... I can't tell... working on it, though

But, I suppose they would first have to determine which type of infection she's got before making a determination about which antibiotic to use. Do you think that type of testing is within their cspabilities at this point?

I don't think you need to worry. It would be prohibitively expensive and/or difficult to film the main character without a hand for the remainder of the series.

I'm glad it wasn't just a second rate character death. Not that I wanted who died to die personally, but it was due time for someone major. Several of them have seemingly become untouchable, which doesn't work in a dangerous-nobody-is-safe world.

Now would have been that bad just to end last seaon directly after the Lucille moment (the entirety of it) instead of that horrible 7 month cliffhanger?
