I'm not a big fan of either Travolta or Cruise, but I'd relish either one of them making a public show of leaving that sick cult.
I don't see it happening with Cruise. We've all seen the video where he's pontoficating about the KSW doctrine and laughing like a maniac about the thought of having a world without SPs.
I don't either, but I can dream.

Cruise never seizes to amaze me. He's one of the worst actors I'm aware of, but he's A material in Hollywood. As opposed to Segal or Van Demme, who, in my opinion, have about the same acting skills.

He sells movie tickets, lots of them.
Remember: we're talking about an industry Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, and Adam Sandler used to command huge salaries for their "acting".

With Jim Carrey actually being a quite versatile actor. The other two, not so much.

Is he? I can't get past his Ace Ventura schtick (which can be admittedly entertaining in a juvenile sort of way). I suppose I haven't seen any of his serious work.
Nonetheless, the other two make the point.

Yeah, he is. His best performance was Man in the Moon. But I don't think he's bad in the Truman Show or Bruce Almighty either. Suffice to say that I called the movie you mentioned always Ass Ventura.

I dug the Ace Ventura movies myself. And while Truman Show did change my opinion on what he could pull off, his best acting work for me was probably the introverted character he played in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
