Dating - Could you date a religious person?

RE: Dating - Could you date a religious person?
Ever since adolescence, I'd crush pretty hard on WASP girls (white anglo-Saxon PROTESTANT). Now that I am 40 and realize looks only get us so far, I'll say that I'd rather be with an atheist, and a quiet one at that. I would not mesh with militant Christianity or Atheism. I'm an atheist, but I live and let live.

RE: Dating - Could you date a religious person?
Honestly, I probably couldn't even date someone who was mildly religious. The most I could deal with would be... maybe an apathetic deist?

I don't know if it never really came up in conversation I guess it wouldn't really be an issue. I certainly couldn't date anyone who was seriously religious, our values just wouldn't align. I even dated a girl who was sort of a new age, spirituality age of Aquarius type hippy and holy shit I wanted to shoot myself. And I'm only being somewhat sarcastic when I say that.

Seriously topaz crystals don't promote virility and sexuality it's just a stupid stone she wore around her neck that really got in the way during certain positions.

But in all seriousness I just couldn't see myself dating someone who disagrees on something that can have so much of an effect on one's morals and values. Maybe I'm wrong but I just couldn't see it working out.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.

It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.

Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

Date? yes... even married her...
She was a basic catholic person... church on Sunday, naughty on other things...
Then things changed... a couple years ago... she's been turning fundie... not cool, man... not.cool.
Or maybe it me who's become more aware of stuff and am not finding it to be something that I want to have around in my old age...
[stay tuned...]

If I was single I could date a religious woman, as long as the Oh Gods were said at the appropriate times.

Would you say she had been as clear about your religious non-affiliation as you were of her catholicism when you got together?  People do change but I think if she knew going in, she owes it to you not to let that change interfere with the relationship.  I must be getting foggy but I can't recall if you have kids.  Parenthood probably could change the equation.

I guess I could 'date' a religious girl if we were both wasted and she was super hot and passed out. Still, I'd probably feel pretty violated.

She never seemed to mind about my stance... and she knew about it, quite well.

Well... I don't know if she knew or not.... but it did interfere... it is interfering.

Well if she messes this up all I can say is we're keeping you, not her.
