The american people and Trump are to blame. We wanted to give Nationalism a shot, and Trump saw it, and gave us the option.
People are just surprised, because they stuck their head in the sand. For partisans, they needed to believe it was about various sound bites and tweets because the reality was Hillary could not believably offer a nationalist platform.

I'm not sure what world people live in when they say that Obama's presidency has been some kind of disaster.
With that being said, I blame multiple factors.
1. The complete lack of transparency/honesty in modern day politics.
As many 'scandals' that are exposed now days, it still seems like there is no transparency in politics. Everything seems to happen behind closed doors. People feel this way, partially I believe, because they do not educate themselves on politics or the political processes which directly affect our lives. Which leads me to number two.
2. Lack of education on political issues
Most people do not concern themselves with politics. Since most folks consider most politicians to be lying, thieving, conniving con-men. I think most people, especially those in the 'working class,' sort of fail to see the point in participating in politics. Because what's the point? We can't change anything. The ones with power are all pulling the puppet strings, right? As misguided as this type of thinking may be, I truly believe that this is how most folks feel.
3. People do not trust Hillary Clinton
This can be discussed and debated all day. Whether or not you thought the shady stuff surrounding her is all that big of a deal or not... Apparently a lot of people felt like it was. The emails, the Clinton Foundation, promises of money being exchanged for favors or vice versa. All these things made people seriously doubt Clinton's trustworthiness and sort of caused everyone to lump her in with the rest of the 'conniving politicians.'
4. Trump fooled people, especially the working class, into thinking that he's gonna be different
Trump has his supporters convinced that he's 'not like these other guys.' He's gonna make things different. He's gonna change things. Sounds familiar huh? Sounds like every other politician that's ever run for president. Interesting. His political incorrectness. His brash speech about illegal immigration and criminals. He incited something in people. He played on people's anger and frustration and desperation - and it worked. The Art of the Deal I guess.
It's a sad state of affairs where people are so fed up with politics and politicians that someone like Trump is even CONSIDERED for the most powerful office in the free world. Unfortunately we all now have to deal with the consequences of this, whatever they may be.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.
It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.
Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

Who are to blame?
The goddamn deplorables in this country who don't know shit about anything. The ones that watch nothing but FOX News and never even heard of Trump University. The ones who overlook his sexist language by calling it 'locker room talk'. The ones who ignore ALL of his wrong-doings because he happens to NOT be a politician, and wasn't a politician when he said and did the things he did. Apparently character only matters if you're a politician.
Not surprised Evangelicals voted for him. They're about as sexist as they come.

I understand where you are coming from and the frustration but how do you account for Trump getting 45% of the votes from college educated women? Of all the exit poll numbers, that one to me speaks the loudest.
We are not made happy by what we acquire but by what we appreciate.

Same result as when George H.W. Bush beat Al Gore, only that was by a slimmer electoral college margin. Another reason I despise the outdated electoral college. Candidates only focus on states they need to get to that magic 270 number and completely disregard the majority of America.
The USA is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. It was designed to avoid the concentration of power in a centralized body or dense pockets of influence.

College educated females are just as likely to be their father's and mother's daughters as non college educated females, and they;re the only demo -within- the white vote that even marginally broke ranks. It was nearly 2/1 Trump for non-college educated whites male or female.....there's mommy and daddy and most of our brothers and sisters...right there. Trump took the college educated white male...there's your -smart- brother......so, what's left, and how surprising was it?

Because those women have grown up in a society that devalues women. And Trump makes the cycle continue. One of the worst things about him being President is he's going to empower all the bigots into thinking that their behavior is acceptable. So they devalue themselves. Women can be misogynist too. Let's not pretend they can't be.
Bigotry in America is acceptable... at least for the next 4 years.

I have very little sympathy for those few plaintiffs who thought attending a few seminars would make them instantly rich.

I guess you got that number from the Guardian also. Here are two other numbers surprising me a bit.
Quote:Broken down by income bracket, 52% of voters earning less than $50,000 a year – who make up 36% of the electorate – voted for Clinton, and 41% for Trump.
But among the 64% of American voters who earn more than $50,000 a year, 49% chose Trump, and 47% Clinton.
So it was the high earners rooting for Trump. Usually it's the lowest segment, being afraid for their jobs, voting for rightwing populists.

Of course you have no sympathy for them. You lack the empathy. You're totally okay with people who do this because you're a piece of shit who blames the victim.
