Personal experience and anecdote are not strong evidence like proper studies and statistics are.

And I still argue that that can not be measured by statistics and studies, as it is a personal thing and can only be studied as such.

How so?

You form a hypothesis that religion can make people do things that are not nice.

You get a sample base of people doing things that are nice and that are not nice in the name of their religion.

You write down your findings.

You have the statistics and findings reviewed by others. They either accept or reject your findings and give their reasons why.

Seems very scientific and very suitable to study to me.

Because there are 6 billion people on this planet, and each one of them is individual from the rest, and affected individually by things such as religion. Taking a base sample is almost impossible, because there are hundreds of differents religions, ways of practicing those religions, and millions of different people have millions of different views on those religions.

You could theoretically gather a group of individuals and record religion or the lack of religion on their lives, but it would only prove that those individuals were affected that specific way by that specific understanding of religion.

People aren't numbers.

That still doesn't negate the feasibility of the study. You can keep collecting data as time progresses. Which religion is not relevant, we are looking at whether or not people do nicer or not nicer things in the name of their religion. Humans are not numbers no, but can easily be represented as such in mathematics and statistics as you have shown yourself just now.

See, statistic.

That is...not a statistic. It is a statement about the number of people on the planet and how vastly different each and every single one of those people is from one another. Every single one of those people have different views and feelings on things, and religion is one of those things. As such, religion will affect each individual in a different way, and whether or not it makes them nice is dependent on the person, not the religion.

statistic n.
- a numerical fact or datum, esp. one computed from a sample.

6 billion is a number. The sample is the entire population of the planet. It is a numerical fact that there are 6 billion people on the planet.

Whatever, I don't give a shit about dictionary definitions of statistic. If that's what my stating a numerical fact that there are 6 billion people on this planet was, then fine. It's a statistic. But the irony here is that I am using that statistic to prove the irrelevancy of statistics. Each of those 6 billion is an individual deviation from the last.

It's like numbering people 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 6... and on. They're all numbers, but they aren't the same number.
