RE: Ask a Professional Copywriter and Author
Re: novels. After you complete a first draft, do you put it aside for a while before you begin to edit it? Or do you start right away?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I put it aside for a while, usually a few months.

How good are you at handling negative criticism about your work? Would you say it bothers you too much or just the right amount?

Shell B is her biggest critic, at least in my experience.

I'm not sure it bothers me too much. Most of the time, I just figure it's either true or just a personal opinion. Every work has problems. However, I'm sure given the right criticism, I would feel poorly about it. I'm just not popular enough to warrant heavy criticism at this stage in my career. Another thing worth mentioning is that copywriters work with editors, so I'm used to people picking apart my work.
