I think spending money I can't afford (and have to borrow) on worthless shit to give to people who don't want it and will nevertheless feel compelled to reciprocate with worthless crap presents of their own that  I will have to pay even more good money to dispose of is nevertheless an excellent way to celebrate the birth of our lord Mammon Jesus.
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I think its a choice, if your mortal, simple folks were created "neutral", I guess. Jesus is a special case.
