I asked about our peace and prosperity earlier. The point is that, while that's due in part to having stolen a great place from Native Americans, it's also a result of our political and economic systems and our culture. You know about giving a man a fish v. teaching him to fish. Same thing here - exporting our systems would result in lasting improvements, while taking in refugees is just a band-aid.

Trying to export our systems by force seems to be at the root of this mess.

Not so much in the case of Syria, actually.  Their civil war was internal.  The connection we have is only in that the detsabilization it caused gave ISIS an opportunity to move in.   We failed to back up our line in the sand, but that wasn't an issue of trying to impose our system on them by force, more threatening force if they continued to commit warcrimes.....which they;ve been happily engaged in ever since, now, with the help of their wonderful russian allies and that lovable goodguy and Friend of America Vlad the Imp..., no, wait, wait, wrong century, same idea.

I assume you have the same position on Africans, but Syrians are in the news and that's how the thread started and you saw no reason to specifically talk about Africans. Without knowing what you mean by "our" I couldn;t comment...if your brother is anything like you, yeah, no surprise.  If he;s anything like me...well.....probably a little harder to swallow, since, again, I served with people whose "mindset" was conducive..what with being human beings, just like me, and all.  People -everywhere- want to be able to live their lives and raise their children without getting shot by loons. Even muslims...hard as that may be for you to understand.

Here's an example he gave. We would run electricity to villages. Afterward, people from one village would go out and use trucks to pull down poles and cut off the electricity to the next village, due to feuds going back centuries. In his view such tribalism wasn't conducive to our style of government.

Note that he volunteered to go there (he was a captain in the navy reserve). He was involved in water projects, i.e. he was helping people who weren't white...and his life was at risk. He later volunteered for Afghanistan.

His wife did go to a Trump rally, and he did put Trump signs in his yard. Three times, as they were stolen twice.
