Astrology: What's your Thoughts?
#21
RE: Astrology: What's your Thoughts?
My thoughts? I think it's incredibly ridiculous to believe that the positions of distant planets & stars have any effect on individuals' lives here on Earth. It's also equally ridiculous to believe that what time of year you were born will affect your personality.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

The midwife's arse has a greater gravitational effect on a newborn baby than all the extraterrestrial planets combined.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

lmao the best part is how recently they 'discovered' a 13th sign that was dismissed because it didn't fit into our calendar. Now all the signs are moved and people have new signs. So much for their sign being true!! Also the days are all kinds of funky. Instead of saying 'to July 22nd and the next one starting on the 23rd' they start and end on the same day. So I have two signs on my birthday of July 20th. I was like wait do I just get to pick which sign I want then?

Ptolemy would like a quick word. Ophiuchus is like the fifth Beatle. Every couple of years, someone 'discovers' it and all the papers run wild about how it turns astrology on its head. Then five minutes later, it's business as usual.

Plus there was that whole switchover from the Julian to the Gregorian calender. Must've really screwed with the celestial filing system.
I am John Cena's hip-hop album.

You can't expect facts to get in the way of good woo.

You know what's actually cool about Ophiuchus?

This:

The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Perhaps if you were a different sign you might have closed the deal.   Tongue

@OP: Of course, it's all bullshit. As for reasons for believing, you'd have to ask my ex-wife who got chin deep in this nonsense shortly before we split up. The appeal seems to be a mixture of a sense of relief that much of one's destiny is woven into the fabric of things combined with a sense of power that one can read the tea leaves, so to speak.

I chalk it up, along with such crap as Tarot, to a primitive form of psychological therapy. "This is a good month to take that chance at love" or "Now is a good time to keep one's counsel", etc. If things don't turn out as expected, there is always an escape hatch for the true believer, which usually involves blaming the one being read for not heeding the signs and acting accordingly.
