Thanks for the welcomes, folks. Most of you seem to have a bit of a . . . caustic(?) sense of humor - I dig it. Maybe I will be around more often than I first thought, but still not too much - my new job already has me glued to a keyboard. I wish I got to fly all day! Sadly, not so. 

I wonder how many pilots are on this board? I've often pondered the dichotomy of flying for a living (especially in the military) and religion (or lack thereof). Wow, there's a whole tunnel system of rabbit holes built into that sentence. Meh.

Nope. Just kind of an avgeek. Don't even have a license. My uncle works at Boeing up in the Seattle area. Bias aside (I swear), I am a fan of their older products, like earlier 747's, and the 727.

I love the 72! What a sexy, loud, pure turbo jet beast! It's a shame they don't make them anymore. Have you seen the footage from the one that crashed Tuesday? It happened in Columbia I think. Awful. I'd love to know the full story.

I flew as a passenger on the Commemorative Air Force Stearman last fall.

It's quite thrilling, intensely.  The sensation of height is greatly magnified over an aircraft with a fuselage.

Congrats that's awesome! These days, that a rarer treat than getting to fly in a fighter, at least by my estimation. In college I had the opportunity to get spin lessons in one for an hour for $250. Suffice to say I didn't let that one slip by :-)

I obviously hate that anybody would lose their life in an air accident, but I kind of grieve the loss of a plane that was so popular during my childhood, too. I need to stahp!

A World War II Spitfire pilot is speaking in a church and reminiscing about his war experiences.
"In 1942," he says, "the situation was really tough. The Germans had a very strong air force. I remember," he continues, "one day I was protecting the bombers and suddenly, out of the clouds, these fokkers appeared."
There are a few gasps from the parishioners, and several of the children began to giggle.
