Helllerrr.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Welcome aboard. What happened when you were 20, if you don't mind my asking?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Thanks! I was a "bad Muslim" before that, but between living in a Muslim country and the fear of what might happen if I ever revealed my doubts, I was ignoring it. At 20 I decided that enough is enough of this bullshit and broke free. I was in a very complicated situation. Now I live in the States for 8 years, its all been good.

Well... Where do I start? I am originally from Iraq I was born 2 days after the first gulf war started (lasted 8 years)...So there goes my childhood. At 11 we had the second gulf war and the embargo (lasted 13 years) so there goes my teenager years and early adulthood...At that point I started questioning why would any god be this cruel for no reason? at 20 I had enough, but I could not come out for obvious reasons. At 23 we have the last war which ended The dictatorship. Right after that violence erupted and I had to leave the country. in 2008 I got a chance to come to the US. I took it and here I am.
I hope I do not depress you guys with this story, but this is what happen in summary. Putting science aside, I could not see how a god can exist and do or allow such horrible things to happen. Even if he/she existed and did not care, he/she would be one huge asshole. That is why I am an atheist.
