It's like impossible to get a hold of him while he's at work. Even when he's not flying, his office either doesn't have signal, or he's too busy with stuff to tend to his phone.

I flew as a passenger on the Commemorative Air Force Stearman last fall.

It's quite thrilling, intensely.  The sensation of height is greatly magnified over an aircraft with a fuselage.

Crop duster I hired this year had a helicopter.

Machine appeared to be designed from the ground up as a farm implement.

The base was a raised platform on a straight truck. Truck also had refueling equipment, and supply of chemicals for the crops. Very efficient set up.

Pilot was also one crazy mother fucker.

Hello and welcome. C_L (or the nick I came up with that didn't catch on, Cath-y) has been a great forum participant. (As you know) she is funny, open and generous. It is rare that we get a theist of any stripe through here that doesn't want to convert us or justify themselves. She obviously has it bad for you, you lucky guy. Then again, I have my own Ms Whateverist so more power to you.

My youngest brother became a pilot right out of high school. He took me on a flight in a single prop/2 seater from the SF bay area to south of LA. Kind of nice to see the scenery go by at that height and at that rate of speed. When we went by LAX the city was encased in fog. He knew how far out from shore and at what height to fly to be clear of airport traffic. But it was still unnerving to see those big old jet liners bomb out of that soup above us. We even had an adventure.

Coming back, he stopped at a small airport halfway between LA and SF. When we took off it was odd that the runway led us to take off directly over the town. Worse, as we were taking off we experienced some bad wind shear which prevented us from taking off normally. In spite of keeping it low and level an alarm rang signaling an imminent stall. I honestly thought we might not clear all the telephone wires and there was a big silo thing in our path we had to go around. But he kept his cool and eventually got us directed into some air that would give us lift. Just as he was letting out his breath and I was no longer looking for emergency landing opportunities we heard a very loud knocking sound, seemingly coming from the motor outside. We finally traced it to my extra long seat belt flap which, while fastened, was still sticking out the closed door. Whew. I imagine a less under-powered aircraft might have had less trouble but I don't know enough about it to really say. Got any close calls to share that won't get your post redacted?

Just the new. My friend who introduced me to it shudders at mention of the old. I saw Caprica, and I'm so sad they didn't run with it longer. All the others, meh, mostly TNG, but I'm not a huge fan. It tends to come off as a bit elitist to me, from time to time. I've seen a few clips from Black Adder (I had an instructor from the RAF years ago), and I thought it was delightfully funny, though probably as much because of the British accents as the actual content.

RAF... oh... he did good. Black Adder is awesome. 4 seasons, 6 episodes each season... not a lot of time to waste to gain hundreds of classic quotes.

I obviously hate that anybody would lose their life in an air accident, but I kind of grieve the loss of a plane that was so popular during my childhood, too. I need to stahp!

I'm right there with you. They won't be around forever. I'm sorely disappointed I never got to see an F4. At least not one in flight. The AF just had the last manned F4 flights this past week as well. It culminated in a four-ship supersonic pass over Holloman AFB, followed by AB patternwork. Pretty awesome.
