BTW, why would you call it a hate crime?
Wouldn't you, if someone gets beaten for what they are. Regardless if it's about, color, sexual orientation, being homeless or handicapped? All of this happens.
I wouldn't call it a hate crime if it happened during an altercation. A bar brawl or two people having a dispute.

Are you aware of the irony in this?
It's not irony. Definitions.
Yes, you're playing the race card. Anyone can do it, but you're acting as if race is the entirety of the crime, and thus anyone who ignores the race aspect or downplays is it is excusing these people of their crimes. Again, obviously a hate crime, but thinking a person's motive is different is not the same as thinking them innocent. Y'all are a bit hungry for that angle.

If someone tries to deny a crime being a hate crime, I can see how some could take it as an indirect defense of the act/perpetrator, since it makes the crime less terrible.
It's just not a defense. No one is saying they didn't do it. That's a defense.
Oh I agree. Morally, it is equally terrible. But socially and as far as the law goes, I think hate crimes get a harsher penalty and are just seen as more evil.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

And it should be considered as such. This obviously wasn't a few guys having a violent dispute over something, but a group attacking a helpless individual.

Which would make misconstruing a hate crime as not a hate crime a completely irrelevant thing anywhere other than a court of law. When I hear someone say, "What they did was okay, because . . . " I'll believe people are defending them. I sincerely doubt anyone in this forum would do any such thing. All I see are a bunch of hard right wingnuts stretching a tragedy to try and make it seem like their arch enemies–the hard left wingnuts–are evil torture supporters. This rhetoric from both sides is what brought us Trump and Hillary. Thanks again, everyone.

Like four different people said it in this very thread, doofus.
Which post though? I've read back but have no idea, the OP got reported or LP did, or I did?

Fairly certain someone reported LP for trolling. I can't say because I'm not staff, I'm pretty good at context.

Not at all Shell. Personally I'd be happy that the media reported it as if race was any single part of the crime. Ignoring the race aspect isn't excusing, I'm not sure where anyone said that. It is a double standard though because if it were the other way round, race would be the main focus. Do you think otherwise?
If you want to be clear, what I personally get riled about is the double standard in how it's 1. reported on and 2. talked about.
1. applies to the media, 2. applies to this forum.
1. influences 2. to some degree, no?

I'm so fucking tired of when one poc does something horrible we're all to blame. I'm tired of having to trust that non disabled people won't fuck us over. That you won't kill us, rape us, cheat us out of our money. I'm so sick both sides of it. I'm going to go live a cave with a cat. Fuck humanity. Fuck all of it.

Personally I haven't seen anyone blaming all black people.
The blame I've seen has been pointed at certain mainstream media sources for
1 not being equally consistent in how they report instances of crime depending on the race of the victim.
2 race baiting, which is linked to number 1.
I don't think anyone should be blamed because or their race, it's more of a left wing thing to be ashamed of people because they're a certain race or to tar all one race with the same brush.
For example all white people are privileged because theyre white, black people aren't responsible for their actions because they're black.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
