I remember my favorite teacher in high school being reprimanded for being too hard on failing students. ( This was the '70s) She responded "Oh yes, we must protect their little psyches!" I still love that woman!

My now-retired dad and former perennial finalist for 'The Least Temperamentally Suited School Guidance Counselor' award once got into mild trouble with his principal after informing a perpetual ne'er-do-well that he was "dumber than a five pound sack of dog shit". Dad would never make it today.

As for the article cited in the OP, I can only shake my head in wonder. Theology students who might find depictions of the crucifixion too upsetting to contemplate; forensic science students who need to be warned that they will have to learn about blood spatter patterns, crime scenes, and dead bodies; and archaeology students who may become unhinged by the thought of a well preserved body?

Yeah . . . pussies. Not just that: stupid pussies who have trouble picking a suitable field of study.

I love you Minn, but that is an oversimplification. Sure if you do something you should have recognition. NO you should not be a dick like Trump and take credit for shit you didn't do. 

But the truth is it is ok to value the efforts of even those who didn't end up on top. Most people don't and most people are the backs the top stands on to make it to the top. 

I do agree trying to combine religious apology into it is absurd. But it is ok to value someone who tries but doesn't make it because the math is simply not there for everyone to end up on the top all at the same time. 

You only have one Superbowl winner at a time. But even if you are on the crappiest team that year, you still accomplished more than most college and HS players will. 

Assholes like Trump say "sucks to be you". Saying " thanks for trying" isn't being a sore winner, but can teach the winner to be a gracious winner unlike asshole Trump.
