Will Our Sun Expand and Go Nova or Shrink into a Black Hole?

Damn glad you had nothing to do with the space race that got us to the moon. The Apollo 13 guys would have died because of selfish narcissism "what's you're problem, I got away with it once, what could ever go wrong?"

I am all for the free market, just not an impractical market. Your moronic attitude is why it took so long to get led out of gas, why it took so long to mandate seat belts and air bags.

You have the same mentality short term thinking as a drunk driver. You make it home several times thinking you'll never have an accident.

We also don't have rotary phones anymore. It won't kill you to think of others or the long term affects of what we do as humans. Just because you can do something doesn't mean it is always good.

Wow, thanks Brian. What insight. I'm a changed man.

Shelby left behind for a Camero.

Trading one impractical piece of shit for another is still a symbol of your own narcissism.

Yea, they were cleverly designed for speed, and people do consider them works of art, but for what? "Look what I can do". So the fuck what? If you like speeding and risking your own safety become a NASCAR driver. But public roads are not your personal speedway.

Diamonds are also another impractical overpriced crap based on appeal to vanity. They are plentiful, they do nothing but look pretty. The only do something practical when they are put on drill bits to cut through hard objects.

Now here is where you cry claiming I want a ban on everything I don't like. Nope, just saying your priorities are flawed.

Does your limited thinking not allow you to see the joke? Do you not know that a Nova was a muscle car from the 60's/70's and that picking a different muscle car was humorous? (yeah, maybe bad humor but humor none the less)

Who is the binary now?

And where the fuck did 'diamonds' come from? What's next, the NRA?

(January 16, 2017 at 11:01 am)Brian37 Wrote: I am going to admit what I am about to say, I have pondered but it is pure speculation on my part.

If I am not correct, and please correct me, science has yet to say something vs nothing, but from what I get from Lawrence Krauss is that coming out of nothing is possible. Am I correct about that so far?

Secondly. after all I have read over the years about something vs nothing, finite vs infinite, my take on it is that they are not mutually exclusive.

I am seeing the universe as almost the same as the atmosphere of our planet, a season starts, then it ends, another starts then ends, ect then the cycle repeats.

So mentally I am thinking "all this" can be forever and does avoid the bullshit problem of a super hero cognition factory boss which causes the problem with infinite regress, but more like an oscillation from off to on, energy gets spent to decay to off, the decay collapses to a dense spot, BOOM another big bang.

Like a light switch is off for a while, gets turned on for a while, light bulb burns out, collapses to off, till a qm twitch and booms back to on again?

Am I even close here? My point is that cycle can be forever and the finite parts are off and on fluctuation between?

I changed my mind Mr Brewer, I now believe in reincarnation, you were in a prior life one of the morons on Easter Island who said when others were saying to you "Dude, we are over populated", you "Who gives a fuck".

Idiot. Take care of yourself Han, I guess that is what you are best at.
That is a possibility, not as an answer to theism since one cannot explain the existence of the super hero without resorting to special pleading. If the universe cannot exist infinitely then neither can the super hero.

Your hypothesis is interesting and feasible on its own merit. If you compare the scale of the universe in terms of the ratio of matter to empty space between the matter, the universe is very much like a galaxy or a star or an atom. So it’s possible that eventually our expanding universe will grow to the size where its outer layers start collapsing and we reach that singularity known as the big bang.

We say nothing can escape a black hole. But think about it. What do you think would happen if you had a pressure cooker with no little hole in the top? The pressure would keep building until the whole thing exploded like an egg in a microwave (don’t try that unless you’re ready to do some serious cleaning up and you really weren’t planning on earing the egg.)
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

I'd love to be a neutrino, those things don't have to worry about anything stopping them. They can move through any solid object.

Now you did it again, quoted me out of context. Yes I can take a joke and I did already apologize for missing it.

What do sports cars and diamonds and even guns have in common?

When I was a kid, I was super jealous of of the other kids on the block, everyone had BMX bicycles with mag rims which cost far more. My mom got me a cheap Ross with spokes. I look at that now and realize she was right, I had a bike and that is what counted, not the cost, not the looks, I had a bike.

Much of our societies problems are because of the marketing of fear and vanity, in selling anything, even religion. Most people go through life never questioning how or why they do things. The ones who improve life, are the ones who question why and look for better ways. I get that you want that car sure. I get that others want diamonds and even guns. But again, just because you want something and can do something does not make it always practical. Just like I wanted a bicycle and still didn't understand I already had one and it worked just as well as the more expensive bikes.

All I did was select the "reply" button but now your the victim of being quoted out of context. Or was this about the "binary" from the other thread? That was not a quote, that was a retort to your previous statement.

And now you're off on bicycles and marketing and the cars that I want and that I'm not practical. What is wrong with you?

Yeah well novae don't have nearly the shine of supernovae. Still an interesting subject. You won't be catching me near one anytime soon.

The current state of space travel does seem to make that improbable. The thing about supernovas though - they come to you.

I'll just take my little Adirondack chair out on the porch, have me some popcorn and a single use camera to watch the sun go nova. Now that's kewl.
