My digging in my heels about never talking about religion or politics with him, however, has made him convinced I'm to the right of Limbaugh.  And since I don't discuss politics with him, there won't be much of a chance of disabusing him of his silly notion.

I do find it unintentionally funny, BTW, and unintentional humor is the best.

And generally, I don't discuss politics with relatives anyhow, so no biggee.

I remain amazed at business people around here having strong and open opinions on either side of issues, BTW.  It can only hurt business, and I'd think it's tough enough as it is.

Hell, there's a restaurant I rarely go to just because they play the Sirius christer rock 'muzak' shit, a real head scratcher.  In my view, no one would go there because they play that station, and my ilk and I would avoid the place since they do, so it's a guaranteed lose situation.

I make damn sure to never engage my attorney or tax dude on anything remotely political or religious, I do NOT want to know.
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

The research shows your exactly right. Different psychological traits will cause people to vote differently and to gravitate towards certain careers. For example someone high in orderlyness and low in agreeableness might feel more at home in the military where as someone high in agreeableness might work in a daycare.

It really depends on your outlook. I'm pretty much the opposite. When I was a college student I was a laissez faire Libertarian. Now I have a job and pay taxes, I'm more of a pragmatic Libertarian, and I don't mind paying more taxes if the services they fund are going to benefit society.
Hate to break it to you, you might not be a libertarian at all. I went through a similar switch. Expect that I'm comfortable calling myself a conservative. Mostly because it cheeses off my friends.  Only College students and Ayn Rand fanatics are true libertarians. The rest of us live in the real world.

I think it's a right/left brained thing more than anything. Psychiatrists and pediatricians probably tend to be more intuitive and emotionally oriented (right brained) because they interact with mentally ill adults and children. While being a surgeon is more emotionally detached and kind of like working on a machine (left brained).

So now the question is, why are left brainers conservative and right brainers liberal?

Id love to see a Canadian version of this study. But Id imagine it would be more difficult due to structure Canadian politics .I mean in the states the tendency is Republicans being right  Democrats slightly more to the left . In Canada the Left is split between the Liberals the New Democrats and the greens on a federal level. The Provincial level the left are split  you have parties like the Bloc(Quebec) And the recently formed Christian Socialists (Ontario and British Columbia) And the native Party (The North). Then on the Right you have the progressive conservatives on the federal level the in provinces you have the Wild Rose(Alberta)The Saskat Party(Sackat) And what's left of the Reform party so yeah I like to see that pie chart.
