National Service

Would you support it?
I'm not necessarily talking about military service however that could be an option for some, but rather civilian service such as helping out in hospitals, emergency services, agriculture, construction and working with the elderly and the disabled, etc

I think it' a great idea. Mandatory four years in a service of ones choosing.

Just to be clear, are we talking about compulsory service under the gov't? if so, then no.

Volunteer opportunities are great. Conscription, not so much.

I have mixed feelings about it. I wouldn't support it at all if everyone had to do military service, but if there was an option in more civilian service as well I might be persuaded to support something like that. It would do a lot of good for the country and it would teach people some much needed perspective. I'm just not sure how much I could get behind the non-voluntary part. So... maybe?

How about volunteer service with clear and highly valuable benefits? Say, college tuition, va care, and hiring preference?

Pretty much, two years of compulsory service in whatever the person chooses. A reward at the end would be discounts towards university fees or something.
