Putty (because openSSH doesn't work in win 10) for my connectivity needs.

Try MobaXterm. The free version is pretty limited in the number of profiles it will save but if you're willing to use a Unix-like shell, it has an internal terminal session which blows away Putty.

I use it at work to access dozens of systems via ssh, stop/scp, tunneling, xterm, etc etc etc.

Oh...it has an X server built in...
I used XMing for that... Before my recent bout with Asus warranty where, to replace a faulty screen, they decided to turn my hard drive into a OOBE (Out Of Box Experience...aka all programs and files gone and back to an all new Windows).

All you Linux nerds are losing.

Mint may be accessable but Windows is more accessible.

There's always a shitty Windows version around but there's also always a decent one. Windows 10 is fine for me and I'd be wasting my time to install Linux when I have no guarantee I'll not fuck it up.

Make a backup? I'm not techy! I am not a computer nerd I'm just a plain old nerd who happens to enjoy using computers. Lol.

I'm sure Linux is the superior operating system for at least many many things. But Windows is uber popular for a reason. Coming installed with the computer kinda helps.

The best operating system is the one that works for the individual user. For most people that's the one that they can deal with.

And for most people it's evidently Windows.

And yeah, coming installed with a PC kinda helps.

When computers start coming installed with Linux and it's as easy to use as Windows and works as well for gaming as Windows... THEN I will be interested.

I have Steam.

Yep. Even my favorite game of all time, Age of Empires 2 HD on Steam--is usable on Mac.

The only thing I don't know is whether Windows players can play with Mac players.

If so, if it's cross platform, that would be awesome.

You should install Linux in a VM and play around with it. That way you don't destroy your main OS and can see how cool Linux is.

      I watched a lot of videos on the many mac OS's over the years. I could not see the purpose of the lack flexibility in the OS in it self.

There was a time when I felt the same way. These days I use my macbook, a windows 7 box at work, a windows 10 machine in my music room and a linux box in my shop. The mac and the windows machines are both plenty flexible for my needs. I never run into anything I need either to do that it won't do.

The linux box? Eh. I like how linux is free and robust and all. But I could never see myself using it as my daily machine. I'm not a coder so I've got zero patience for trying to remember 'sudo appget http://www.frankbuckwaldsbutthole.com/butthole/sources/"just a god damn clock app"-t -n -u' every time I want to load some kind of utility or make the machine do something different. My Linux machine runs on an ancient windows box in my shop and I use it for a web browser and a music player and thats it. 

All of my PC's I've never had a issue with them. Maybe it's because I know how to maintain them so well; monthly defrags, good anti-virus software, opening up files I don't know in VM's before I open them in my real OS ect. I hate the UI on macs, the lack of third party support and them charging for updates which changes nothing. I'm also tired of Mac users  saying "We don't get viruses, and were harder to hack". I've always called a Mac user out of those claims. If you access social media sites on a Mac, Windows, Android, or Linux based O/S you are prone to infections.

Infections and your vulnerability to them has everything to do with the user and almost nothing to do with the OS. I run all my machines naked. No anti-virus or maleware protection on any of them and I use facebook regularly. Never had an issue. 

The IT guy at work even lets me run my Win7 laptop naked. He's got some kind of fakakta anti-whatnot software on everything else in the office (and everyone complains because it often grinds their machines to a crawl) but he allows me to keep mine naked. Not an issue. Yet we regularly get group texts from our CEO saying don't open any emails from him because his account got hacked again. Its not about the OS or the security software. Its about the user. Period.

Just booting up my dual boot laptop shows me how much slower everything is under Windows. It's not fun to use at all.

Making a backup of an entire partition by simply copying the file in /dev/ has got to be the most elegant thing ever, especially since you can directly mount your backup file as a drive with one quick command, and simply copy it back onto your actual HD if you want to restore it exactly.

As for ios, I don't really hate it as a user, but I don't like being in a walled garden as a coder.
