Did anyone mention Alan Rickman?
Or James Earl Jones.

Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter, specifically in Silence of the Lambs. Menacing without being thuggish, supremely intelligent and manipulative. He didn't have to be physically imposing to be terrifying.

Honestly, when I read this title, the first name that jumped in my head was Alan Rickman. He just oozes evil as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

He supposedly only took the role because he owed Besson a favour, but he still shone in it. Also, pulling off that accent as a Brit...
He's also really good as the bad guy in "The Professional." Maybe that's why he owed a favor to Besson.
He was also great as the white gangster guy in "True Romance."
