I've known a lot of people in a similar sense to what you have described. A few years back, a new hire at work, he and I shared some similar interests. So, we struck up one those brief work style friendships. One day he saw me talking to a homosexual co-worker that I'm friends with. (I don't care about status, if your a homosexual, transgender, or whatever. If we share some common ground I'll have a conversation with you about the subject.) He asked me one day, "Why are you talking to a homosexual?, don't you know their life styles are wrong!" I was kinda of thrown back at what he said. After I told, that I did not care about a persons race or sexual identity. He got mad and never talked to me again in a personal fashion.

Your in tough place, if you support her niece if it will put in a difficult position with your stepson. But from what you said, to me he's not worth getting along with. Support her niece and maybe he will calm down a bit

I have always supported my wife's niece, (I've known the niece since 2001) even when the niece was in an open relationship with a lesbian, and even when her mother (my wife's sister) used to treat her daughter like shit, and try to use her as a go-between for drug deals by threatening to have the child placed into care if she didn't pick up and drop of drugs (mostly meth), so the niece moved here, away from her drug abusing mother, her father is absolutely obsessed with Startrek, and has totally become alienated from the family, he's gone as far as even learnt how to speak Klingon, he has role playing sessions with his (closet) friends, he even had the basement turned into a federation interrogation room,,,,,,well, you can guess the rest.   So, yeah the niece came here to escape all that.

Well Jesus did warn people that your enemies will be the members of your own household. It's kind of ironic that any religious groups tend to be fairly focused, given that Jesus didn't give a lick about who people were blood related to. My wife's niece arrived here and bought a house across the street, she has 1 child with her, and is a single mom, but also a bi-sexual too, now, my stepson has been a religious freak for many years, today his wife bought over the 3 grand-kids, the oldest being 13, the grand-kids mom dropped off the kids and the 2nd oldest told the little girl "when you move into your house we are not allowed to play with you unless you're here with grandpa and grandma", as a result of this my wife called her son and was immediately told "our religion says that same sex relationships is a sin, and I DON'T want MY kids anywhere around it, I don't care if she is family or not, MY kids will NOT be coming round again until this sinner is at least 5 states away from you, and because you didn't join our church YOU are to blame for this not US, and being married to that ATHEIST (me), will only break up the family".

Do ya'll see how these f%^#ked up pieces of religious s#$t use emotional blackmail to break up families.

I had to take the kids back home, but during that time, she took an overdose of pills, and is now in hospital, my stepson wouldn't talk to me, but told the nurse, "when she wakes up, tell her, you only have yourself to blame."

This all seems a bit one sided to me. over the top escalation on the outset challenge, for oppositions side. and straight up unprovoked victim hood for the home team. yeah, not likely.

If religion was the reason for their manipulation, what is the reason for yours? How are you now a better person than your religious step son?

Look a here sport. Your "religious douche son" already knew everything he told you two before your wife called, yet He still went against his better judgement and let the grand kids come over. He struggled and prayed about what to do, and putting his strong religious beliefs aside He put his children in POTENTIAL Spiritual Harm's way.

Also know all of this (his sister was gay, you're a heathen, and what the bible says about it) He is STILL Playing nice with the family, till mom calls up and self righteously unloads/confrontsnthe son... Now from his POV it is not enough to play nice. now the heathen has warped my mom's mind into thinking I have to accept the heathen she is married to, and what my sister does, and throw away what I believe for the sake of family unity... Hence His response. (As again it is rare if ever does one just unprovoked start out with an over the top like you described)

Is your stepson a Christian? If so, you mean the mis-application of religion destroys families. Jesus went out of his way to fellowship with sinners.

And Jesus said we would know his followers by their love. Frankly, most of the Americans who call themselves Christians are just 'team Jesus'. They don't know scriptures very well, and they don't really make much of an effort to emulate the idealized Jesus they profess to follow, they just know what team they're on.

          Wow, well I do give him credit being a pure Trekie, if you do have a family you should not let a hobby drag you away from family. Has the father who is obsessed with StarTrek, seen anyone for his issues? I hope everything works out for you, if he feels that his children should not be around someone no matter the reasons it's his choice as parent. I worry about the kids though and what kind of upbringing they will have. In 20 or so years the landscape of society is going to change dramatically. If they grow up to think like him, they are going to have a tough time.
