Didn't know if this was science or religion so I stuck it here. Plus I may be late to the show (finding articles back to July 2016).
Apparently NASA awarded over 1 million dollars to the Center for Theological Inquiry. FFRF filed a protest.

The players, Mary Voytek and William Storrar are definitely linked:

For fucks sake, NASA already has a tiny budget, why did they spend $1 million on such a stupid project to begin with.

I could actually see a clinical study of the cultural impact on religious views the discovery of extraterrestrial life might imply; but a grant like that should go to a sociology department at a university, not to Christian foundation.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

You'd think that needing a million dollars to shoehorn your religion with the latest scientific findings would be a red flag.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
