Don't forget to add everybody who ever existed before 400AD, and everybody who has existed since then who wasn't born and raised in christian territory.
We're talking hundreds of billions of people now...
and might I add, hundreds of thousands of leaders and people of great importance.

May I add that both would be an Arguement ad populum, a "so what" would probably be more appropriate.

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

By "short", I mean there are only three items on the list, but only two I'd like to address on here:
-All the [US] presidents
-Every great leader
He's wrong on these two points. The awesome list that was posted on page 1 is an excellent source.
Either way, I think you should focus on making your grandfather understand that being religious does not make you great.
I'd also like to warn you that your grandfather will more than likely never change his mind on the subject. He may occasionally just jab at the subject forever. You won't change his mind. The best you can do is change his outlook on the subject matter and remind him that you're his grandson, and still his grandson, despite whatever you choose to believe, or not believe.
I like the way you think!
...But please stop thinking, it's not you.

However, if you would like to give any further information regarding this, no one's stopping you. I've heard Indians using the term "Great Spirit," but not "Great White Spirit." Either way, the "Great Spirit" seemed to be on hold when the White Man took over their land, forced them into reservations, and generally put them into situations that would justify their having a higher rate of alcoholism than any ethnicity in America.

and an argument from authority...... I agree with the "so what" but i would also add " So what , how exactly is that proff of a god much less your god"

@ Cerrone, no this wasn't directed to you. It was a gneneral statement to the OP as xyster correctly intrpreted. I would also probably add "how exactly is that proff of a god much less your god" as well.

Every great leader for hundreds of years was a Flat Earther. Is the Earth therefore flat? Newton was an alchemist. Is alchemy therefore a legitimate branch of science?
Most great leaders in history were believers because atheism wasn't an option. It wasn't even thinkable. That they were religious proves nothing except man's gullibility.
'We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.' H.L. Mencken
'False religion' is the ultimate tautology.
'It is just like man's vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions.' Mark Twain
'I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.' Abraham Lincoln

I certainly wouldn't count on him changing his mind. My mom's less strict than him and I know she wouldn't. But, you're right, I should make it a point in at least trying to make him understand.
By the way, I'm his grandDAUGHTER. I guess I never realised Diamond was a guy's name! XD
