I was an open and active believer my whole life until I was about 25, but never gained a shred of personal evidence for all of it. Now what?
I don't believe you. Get over it.

No offense Hopey but why should I want to be like you? Are you Jesus's sunbeam?
God thinks it's fun to confuse primates. Larsen's God!

I actually have plenty of personal evidence, evidences that God has shown me. I know, not just believe. I believe if you are open God can show you Himself too.

I'm not dealing with your god; I'm dealing with you. Don't play Dolphinetics with me, I invented it. Present your evidence and I will consider it. What I'm not going to do is buy what you're selling before you've even shown me that you have anything to sell.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

If you cant show other people or what you "know" can't be tested by something other than the human brain then what you have is essentially nothing.

I am open to the idea of god. if someone explains.

A: What a god is.
B: What its made of.
C: Where does it come from.
D: How do we test the validity of claims made for said "god"
E: Are there all the reasons to believe any of the above are not god been tested and proved wrong.

But at the moment I find what I have been told about god a silly idea. Along the lines of underpants dwarves.

^Exactly this. Religious conversion attempts always amount to: 'I've got this flash car for sale. I can't show it to you, but I sincerely believe it is the most amazing car that's ever been. If you send me $50 000 dollars (or the equivalent amount in gullibity), you will believe in the car as much as I do.'

Great, post copies of that. The evidence part, not the "personal" part.

@OP. Just consider if you're wrong and there is no god... then all you've done is create a fictional entity in your mind that makes you feel good because you have low self-esteem. I think I had a similar thing going on when I was a Christian... the whole 'personal relationship with Jesus' thing... and I'm pretty sure that's the motivation of a few people I know; feeling inferior/unloved in the world and for that reason I think it would be particularly hard for them to lose. But I just see it as self-medication... that never deals with the underlying issues. Much better to learn about psychology, introspect, and/or get therapy to deal with your self-esteem issues and deal with the underlying problems.

The desire to comfort and soothe myself, and/or to feel that I'm not alone is clearly insufficient cause for me to believe; I've long outgrown the expectation that I will be rescued, simply because I want to be, friend.

Your desperately bleating that "God is real....He loves you SO much. Lay your troubles down....you'll see! My God can fix your teeth!" is NOT a compelling reason to believe that there's anyone up there; The OP's just meaningless.

Why would you choose to utilize this specific approach when addressing adults?
