Reading up on politics can be quite daunting....as an example, Marx is fascinating, but quite difficult.
If you are inerested, can I simply recommend starting with " The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists " by Robert Tressell. It is widely accepted as being a socialist classic. Its genius is that it is a human, compelling story about the lives of ordinary folk suffering under the capitalist order of society in the early 20th century. It has a reputation of changing peoples' lives!
My grandad came around just a few days ago saying he'd quite like a framed picture of Marx in his living room. Wasn't Marx a bit loony? Or is that just the "right" pushing more prejudiced beliefs down our throats?
If I can't find that book on the internet (as an e-book thingy) I'll make sure I have it before the end of next month. Oh, I have a library card, I could try that.

It has been quoted before:
"Communism: Right idea, wrong species." -Jermaine Evans
I am a liberal socialist, so definitely left. Though with moderation, and certainly not the PETA/Greenpeace type.

It's cool how we all seem to have a somewhat socialist leaning when a few months back the American's were screaming "OBAMA IS A SOCIALIST" as if it were the end of the world.

Well I don't live in the US. I know atheists have it bad in the US, and socialism is a dirty word. So I think when I am in the US next month it will be best to stay out of political and religious discussions there.

Luke MC, maybe you could ask your grandad about Marx's state of mind!
He was far from being a loony in my estimation, rather he got a few predictions wrong about how the proletariat would act. Try reading "the
Communist Manifesto " that he and Engels wrote and see whether " loony " is appropriate.

Leo, I must say how amused I was around the time that the Democrats were pushing for the spending of millions ( or was it billions? ) to " save capitalism " and the Republicans were opposing the plan on the basis that it was a dose of " socialism "!
Equally amusing was the sight of demonstrators parading around Washington with placards proclaiming " SAY NO TO SOCIALISM " .
There are socialists in America just as there are athists. Just not enough of either at the moment!

I agree with conservative thought regarding small government and civil liberties, but it seems in Canada and the US our conservative representation is off-course. I've been voting very liberally, simply because they seem more rational as of late.
I voted for the Green Party in this year's election, actually. If there was a legit conservative party that wasn't tainted by religion and big business, I'd vote for them in a flash.

Please understand that was a joke. Attempted Humor. (or is it Humour?) A funny-ha-ha.
I don't think ya'll have a Wal-Mart there across the big pond, but they have a sense of humor department. I could pick you up one and send it.
$14.95 + shipping.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

Heh, even though I'm not British I have a tendency to spell things the British way because in some cases I think it looks nicer, take my Blog title for example. XD So centre doesn't bother me at all. I also prefer theatre.
As for my political views, I'm definitely a far left liberal, and my political party is Independent because, even though I vote Democrat, I don't always agree with them and prefer not to label myself as a party that still alienates atheists.
