I suppose for the same reasons some women prefer to have straight hair instead of curly.
No matter how we are the cosmetic industries will spend millions of dollars in ads to tell us that we are flawed.
So they can sell tanning cream to light skinned people, skin bleach for dark skinned people, lotions to hide freckles, fake freckles for those who don't have any, straightener for curly hair, perms for straight hair. It's not really about what looks best, it's about convincing people that they don't look best so they'll give you their monies.
Despite all that, it is still my chosen field of study. 
Actually, what I would really like to do is give makeovers to our service men and women who have returned from the middle east and need a new look to go with their new jobs. Helping someone to feel better about themselves is my aim.

Hope it didn't hurt to much, unless you wanted it to.
So, despite my experience with kink, pain management techniques were not working. I took that photo while waiting for the doctor because I needed to distract myself somehow by messing with camera/phone/facebook.
I was in so much pain that I had the phone and my hand propped to stop the shaking, and my teeth were chattering. You do what you have to do while you're waiting.

The xray shows that needle broken in two inside your finger. With the proper anesthetic, that was probably cool to watch them extract.

You can see the tip coming out of my finger - that was a solid piece. The other portion closest to the nail looks solid, but was actually shattered fragments.
I couldn't watch. I'm normally not squeamish, but even after he numbed me I was aching and in shock.
