Wife and I should have pursued our careers in the US. Could have gotten a PhD position in NY possibly.

It was seriously the dumbest thing I ever did in my life, ever! I have never felt so miserable before. It was during the Summer, too. So it pretty much destroyed my entire summer. My parents took away my cell phone for 2 months and my computer was taken away for 2 months, too. I ended up getting a job later that summer and paid it off. The irony is that was when I got my first car, too. So it wasn't such a bad Summer. But still, I learned a lot from that mistake.
Ah! Artemis Fowl, the teenage criminal mastermind.

The dumbest thing I ever did was believe the Word of Faith people at my church when they taught me to believe I was already healed. So I took off my hearing aids and contact lenses as an "act of faith." I walked around Los Angeles unable to see or hear for a week waiting for the manifestation of my healing to kick in. When I told my Sunday school teacher what I was doing, he found some kinda way to convince me that acting on faith doesn't really require that I act.

I tend to think of regret as the inevitable side-effect from any choice one makes.
The only ones who live without regrets are true slaves. A man chooses, a slave obeys.
Helps me embrace regret.

Regret keeps us from doing the same dumb things over and over. It's only when we allow regret to steal our joy or make us feel we can't do better that it's a problem.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I agree, same here. But that's perfectly compatible with me recognizing I made stupid mistakes.

RE: Dumbest mistake you ever made in your life
I once left a person behind, thinking that they would be there when I came back....thinking that I would come back. I never did.

(It's hard to isolate the single dumbest mistake I've ever made...I've had the dumb an awful lot in my life, that one ranks pretty high up there, for it's haunting and effecting every moment of my life since. It was a moment, in retrospect, that defines me to this day and contributed to every circumstance I find myself in, good or bad.)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

With hindsight, it is pretty spectacular how long I was in love with Brian and was unaware of it. The months I knew him were the most miserable of my life, and associating that unique level of misery with love took a very, very long time.

It didn't have to be a regret, I could have been happy with the life but it became a regret. I shouldn't have married the man I depended on to fix me. I should have tried things on my own and not depended on any one person so much.
