That's why the park was located where it was at.  They trawled the tax codes for some place that would pay for their bullshit....then made up the difference from gullible investors that are now horrified that they didn't show just a bit of skepticism regarding the return projections this charlatan put in front of them...and in plenty of cases I can't help but think that's intimately related to those same investors not showing an ounce of skepticism towards the -ark- that this charlatan put in front of them.

Spoiler alert...the people who were made to shoulder the brunt of this are super jesusy.

Largely, yes.

The TIF District will pay a portion of the taxes for 30 years. The 70+ acres of land that they gave to Ham for $1 are gone. Further rebates on the property taxes could (but won't, seeing attendance numbers) reach $18 million. The state paid for the upgrade to the exit ramp on I-75 for traffic that isn't coming.

Literally, the parking lot for the Ark Encounter is larger than the actual town of Williamstown.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I feel the same way.  Everybody's pious pious when asked (or come election time)...but I know it feels like a knife to have to cut those checks...and these dumbasses in government (and in public life) that had made a faustian bargain with the devil of christerism can just keep cuttin em.  I know, I know, I'm subsidizing it to a minor extent in that I have to pay a portion as a taxpayer.....but I'd be willing to pay a whole lot more, and directly, if these constant disappointments and schemes somehow helped them to learn something.

The only thing that really pisses me off, about that boat..is that it aint a boat. How do you fuck up a boat? Boats are an article of southern redneck faith - harder than any commandment. How do you fuck up a boat....in kentucky?

I know how they could turn the whole thing around, btw. Get rid of that parking garage, stock the pond with catfish and crappie....and then they;d have a backwoods jesus themed fishing resort. -Profit.

I didn't see anywhere that Ken is praying more. I think he should try that, How could god possibly fail him now.

Kens not a gullible mark that thinks praying will do anything.  He could have prayed for money without going through the trouble of building a failed park....but he didn't.  Just like he could have gone to an accredited theological school...but didn't.

We're not talking about a faithful idiot, here, I;m afraid.  The guys a known con.  I believe in his deeply held christer faith about as much as those investors should have believed in his attendance estimates. What you see in that story, thatls not him being a batshit crazy idiot..he's just saying what he knows, and I know, and everyone knows...his marks want to hear. Atheists! Fake News!

But he'd be praying for the poor people of KY, not for himself right?

Or maybe pray that people ignore reality just a little bit more.
