Glad to hear church wasn't the reason

Why would they be glad to hear that wasn't the reason?

It may have been explained in one of the posts in this thread, however, in simple terms:

The reason of "I had a bad experience with the church / religion" is not a valid reason to totally reject a religion. Christians actually tend to use this excuse often, saying that "The only reason why atheists 'hate god' is because they had a bad experience." Which is totally not true for the most part.

One would think that if they're going to believe or reject something, that it would be because they understand what it is, and simply don't buy into it, and figure out in their own mind that it's not rational, and doesn't make sense.
I like the way you think!
...But please stop thinking, it's not you.

Well, sure, I'd rather 'laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints', I'm just sayin' it's a shitty thing to say to maybe a young person who's still figuring things out. Sort of like how they introduce little Jewish kids to mental anguish by taking them to Yom Kippur services and saying that you can either be written in the Book of Life or the Book of Death, and it all depends on how well you apologize to god and everyone around you for a 10 day period. It makes a person neurotic. I've never heard a rabbi go off on a jew and say god probably wouldn't be wasting 'ink' on him/her, but I certainly would rather hear a jewish friend say "I saw through the bullshit, man" than anything else.

But that goes along with what's already been said in the thread - you want a deconversion based on reason, not emotion.
